Hello all, I am curious about how people store their frozen meats (Original packaging? Wrapped in foil? Extra plastic bags?) and how you defrost (Microwave? Fridge?). I've been avoiding freezing meats, but I'd like to shop less often which would make the freezer come in handy!

Re: How to you store and defrost your frozen meat?
I usually put the meat in freezer bags. I decide what I will be making the night before and take out the meat at that time just put it in the fridge. It will slowly defrost in the fridge. Some times if I didn't take out anything and I just came home I will take it out keep it in the bad and put it in a bown with water for an hour. That usually works too.

I try to buy in bulk and then freeze...in double bags...making sure all the air is out...
to defrost the frige is best...but in a pickle I'll micro is for 1/2 the time it needs and then run it under cold water

I do the same, try to buy in bulk like at BJ's (they have some great meat IMO) and then divide in freezer bags.

I usually freeze meat in freezer bags and write the date I bought the meat on the bag.

We normally use freezer ziplocs. But for freezing cooked meat (leftovers) they say to wrap it in foil then put it in a ziploc.
We usually de-frost in microwave because we don't seem to plan ahead to defrost in the frig.

Just to clarify (for the domestically challenged)... so you take the meat out of its original packaging and put it into ziploc freezer bags? Would you take it out of the original packaging if there was just one serving in it?

If its package up really nice then I won't but usually I just stick it in the freezer.

I take the meat out of the original packaging and but them in freezer bags (I use baggies) and freexe them in the fridge. I do this as sooma s I get home from the supermarket/butcher. Some times - if I need to remember the weight or something I will rip of the tag frlom the package and pu tit in when I freeze.
When I remember, the evening before I will take out what I want to cook for dinner then next day and place it on a plate in my fridge to defrost. If I don't remember, I put the meat on the counter on a plate the next morning.
I rarely use the microwave to defrost and rarely not take the meat out of the package when I freeze.
Re: How to you store and defrost your frozen meat?
I would throw a freezer bag around the original packaging...
but since I buy in bulk...I'll separate it when I get home...

I take it out of the packaging, wrap in saran wrap indivdually (makes for easier portioning), and then put in a freezer bag.
Never wrap meat in tin foil to freeze, the metal in the foil will discolor the meat and soak into it.

We have the foodsaver. It vacuum seals the food in plastic wrap and then we put it in the freezer. I take out whatever we are going to make for dinner in the morning and put it in the refrigerator to defrost.
