Re: how vegan are you?

I am so not vegan. I don't know if I could go vegan, ever.

I eat all dairy products, gleefully.

I eat fish, selectively. Although that is a fairly recent addition to my diet. I just started eating fish about 2 years ago. Never had it before that.

I DO NOT eat any pork, red meat, white meat, duck, chicken, turkey, other white meat, cow, lamb.

Nor anything that contains by-products of previously mentioned meats.

I like to say I am 'almost vegan' No beef, pork, chicken, fish, etc. Limited milk products (they make me ill) and limited egg (my fav veggie product - chik nuggets - has eggs in it as a binder, and I haven't found an equally delicious substitute yet). I try to avoid milk and eggs, but I haven't gotten to the stage where I ask at restaurants if the noodles are egg noodles, etc.

I am currently in the stage of eliminating the leather from my wardrobe. Slowly but surely.

Re: how vegan are you?

Typically, I'm completely vegan in what I eat... no dairy or eggs, and absolutely no animals at all...

Although, now that i'm pregnant, certain cravings have steered me to the dark side - I'll occasionally have somehting that probably has eggs IN it, or some dairy - but not a lot... I did have some snickers bars during halloween time. But I do not crave meat at all, although I have heard veggie preggos eating meat (yes, like Phoebe!)

Also, I must admit, when it comes to shoes, I will wear some leather... can't help it. I'm a shoe whore.

I LOVE cheese. mmmm.
No milk though, yuck.
I have a vegan friend who never eats at restaurants, for lack of trust. she also won't eat things like altoids because they may contain gelatin. No leather, fur, wool, etc. No pasta, and she buys only specific toiletries. You'd be surprised at what contains animal products. Toothpaste, shaving gel, anything with a certain red dye. Eww.

I really try to avoid buying leather products too. But, (as I discussed with Sue before) there was this wham!tastic bag in Florence... I could NOT resist.

Oh yeah - no altoids for me - and no marshmallows - gelatin!!!

I will eat at restauraunts though - but not steak houses, or where a lot of meat is cooked because i know the grill will be shared with my veggies - or I'll just order a salad at a place like that if I am at a social gathering.... We a=obviously frequent a lot of vegan rest's - like Zen Palate - yummy!!!

I also will not use beauty products with animal products in it, and won't use tested on animal products either!

I do have some wool sweaters though

but why won't she eat pasta? Most pasta has no animal products in it...

I used to be WAY vegan - although I never got to the stage of completely eliminating refined sugars. So hard. I tried to be a raw foodist for about a week - and failed quite miserably. I heart bread way too much, but I am tempted to try again......

Oh, I tried raw too - but the food was so heavy, it made me sick!!!

ETA: And I never ate sugary things before being preggers either... I'm a bad mommy!

Who knows. I thought pasta had egg in it, not just egg noodles. Maybe it's because she thinks it fattening. Crazy vegan.

She subscribes to this e mail newsletter that is meant for Indian people- I can't recall what it's called, but it has lists ans lists of no good foods that have pork byproducts- stuff that's not even on the labels.

What is that called? the Indian version of Kosher?

I know that not all Garden Burgers are vegan - they have cheese in them... I'm pretty sure there are some Boca burgers that have cheese in them as well - I always buy Boca vegan....

Houlihans serves veggie burgers.
Applebees are the GROSSEST.
Ruby Tuesdays is really good, don't know what brand they serve.
I want a home made veggie burger. Are there yummy places that serve things like that? Buthere's the catch- DH is the meat eating-est.
No fru fru hippy joints for him.

Re: how vegan are you?

Never heard of cheeburger before

I heart me Tiger Lily's veggie burger (Port Jeff) - it isn't a store bought one just heated up, it is an in house made veggie burger. But usually I go with the falafal or tofu wrap over the burger. (it is a big 'froo foo hippy' but they have meat options (I think they are free range) for DH like chicken). Also vegan soup!

Friendly's has veggie burgers (you can sub in for any of the burger choices), but they are cheese bound

Ruby Tuesdays has em, but I am not a fan

Unos has veggie burger - but I haven't had it
