How would you feel?

How would you feel?

OK so I got an invitation for a graduation party from someone I have been friends with since grammar school. We aren't BFF's but we hang out occassionally and she has met FH on several occassions. It's not a simple graduation party, it is this HUGE deal. For some reason her parent's are treating it like a wedding. I got a STD for this party!! The invite came yesterday and it is nicer than most wedding invites I see! It's a really nice party on a boat and everything.

So... I was invited alone, without FH. I can't help but feel a little hurt by this. We are getting married!!!! Also, I would love to share this experience with FH, especially because he is obsessed with boats and the sea. I am NOT going to complain about it to her or not show up because of this.
I am going to gladly go with a smile on my face and have a great time, but I just feel really bad about it and think it was uncalled for. Just wondering how you guys would feel if you were invited without your fiance to a really big event?

*Update* I am excited to go and I will go. I didn't want to say anything to her because everyone I know, including my friends and the people on LIW, always complain and talk trash about people who invite guests along. I may say someting when I RSVP... I just feel bad for FH

The envelope didn't say 'and guest' or anything like that?

Personally, I'd ask. Explain that you didn't know if it was an oversight, and you understand if he's not, but you were just wondering.

Hmm, that's strange? Do her parent's know you're engaged? I would ask her maybe.

ITA... it doesnt hurt to ask. It could have just been an oversight or space could be limited since they're having it on a boat.

But I definitely don't blame you for feeling a little hurt. It's not like he's just some guy you happen to be dating.

In this case, I would ask. I would feel put out if i was asked to a big event without FH and personally, wouldnt even want to go. Just ask to make sure...its not like its an acutal wedding, so its not rude to ask about bringing your FH to a grad party.

ITA - you don't want to not go and then find out that it was a mistake, or that she assumed you'd bring FH.

Yeah I think this is the way to go. My FH would be pretty offended if he wasn't invited to something like that and then I'd feel bad and probably rsvp NO to the whole thing.

Id be pretty annoyed, when you are engaged you should be invited to all events with FH.

Re: How would you feel?

that is the one thing that always ticks FH & I off. we have been together for 9.5 years, thats longer then some people stay married. & we live together.

we constantly receive invites only addressed to one of us. i recently received an invite to an engagement party address to me & a guest!!! a) the person who sent the invite is invited to our wedding & received a STD. b) she has been to our apartment in the past for social events. c) she is in school to be an event planner.

needless to say we are not attending the engagement party because i was highly insulted by the way the invite was addressed & we also have a prior commitment that day.

IMO, just send a card & call it a day.
