How would you handle this

How would you handle this

I invited a co-worker in my department and my boss. THe co-worker was fired/laid off last week. My boss asked me today when I have to give the final co9unt to the hall. She said that it might be an awkward situation with my former co-worker being there. I told her I could sit them at different tables. My boss said she really wants to come to the wedding but she doesn't want it to be awkward.

How would you handle this? I would really like the both of them there. I hope for one day they could put there differences aside. DOes that sound selfish

was there an altercation that caused the uneasiness or just bad feeling b/c of the firing?

I would still invite them both but let them decide who will come and be the bigger person and set aside the issues for your big day

there wasn't an altercation. from what i gather, she was fired/let go for her lateness

I agree. Let each person decide if they are coming and if both are coming seat them at different tables. But I agree that is a tough situation.

I agree as well. This is not your problem, it is THEIR problem. You are doing the right thing by inviting both. Stick to your guns............

i would put them at different tables. no one says that they have to talk to each other. if they can't put the differences aside, then they would be acting like kids. i hope thats not sounding selfish

Hmmm is your boss iliterate? Can she not read the RSVP by date on your beautiful cards? Is the self stamped envelope too small to 'find'? I'm sorry, but why is she asking you this...she's putting you in a very uncomfortable situation and is unfairly asking you to choose. Your guest list is YOUR business, period. You shouldn't share who is coming and who isn't because it's not her wedding and she's not paying for it...

Sorry for the rant, insensitive, crazy people who have no common sense make me angry!

EXACTLY!

Seat then separately, and then don't worry about it. Hopefully they will act like adults!

EEEK! that's one dilemma I wouldn't want to have!

I don't even know what to say except, it is your wedding! do what makes it right for you!

Not selfish at all on your part. I do see where your boss is coming from but still she can sit at another table and not even talk/interact with her the whole evening. She is being selfish.

Oh, so she RSVP'd yes and now wants to possibly back out due to the fact that someone else you invited might attend? OK, that makes me even angrier. She seems nice.

Sorry you're going through this...try to stay out of it and avoid it...because making you choose is wrong.

If she really wanted to go, she would and wouldn't complain. Plus, by making you choose she is making it awkward.

I think it is very unfair for your boss to put you in this situation. That is not your problem. If they want to come to your wedding then they will come and not worry who else is there.

Definitely invite them both, seat them at separate tables... They are adults, they should be able to handle themselves. The day is about you, not them!

I have to agree..your boss is not seeing the big picture.

I have also invited a colleague who was let go. I just thought I would leave it up to her to decide what she felt comfortable with. If she comes I will make sure not to seat her at the same table as her replacement
