after my shower my aunts and cousins all stayed at my mom's house with us (they're from md), and we were talking about my cousin's wedding that's in january and my wedding. we started talking menus, etc. and she was saying all this stuff about how there won't be beef and she couldn't get these potatoes she loved bc they had cheese on them.... bc some of her guests are kosher and muslim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i really wanted to say something about how she should get what she wants and just make sure there is something there that they will be able to eat (it's a buffet) - it's her wedding, not theirs so she shouldn't be planning around them!!!
she just sent me a fb message saying 'now that you're married, do you have any wedding advice for me?' i really want to bring it up nicely but i don't want to just say that!! how would you say it and what other advice would you give? i already have my own list but i want to give her a bunch of stuff...

hmmmm...it depends HOW strict these friends are with their kosher diets. DH has a cousin that has two completely different kitchens in his home so that he doesn't mix meat and dairy. If this is something that really does bother her, I would tell her to talk to the hall about if they even provide kosher menus, or if they have done half kosher/half not kosher in the past.

Ita, everyone said to me 'It's your wedding, no one else's, do what YOU like.'
I see no problem in that.

I would probably tell her to plan the wedding for herself and the majority of her guests.
If there are a few people who have special requests, maybe you can make an arrangement with the RH for those people. If people with special food needs make up the majority of her guests, then the bride should have the RH make her exactly what she wants for her wedding, even if she's the only one getting that meal.
I'm having a different side than the one being served to the rest of my guests at special request. Also, I knew a bride who had a different first course than the rest of her guests, because you want to cater to the majority, but still be happy for yourself on your wedding day.

i agree with Barb that you can just tell her to have the food she wants to eat because it's her wedding. i don't think your cousin would be offended by that
as for other advice for her, tell her to relax and not worry about anything that might go wrong (the day goes by too quickly to be upset over anything), and to drink enough water, and to make sure if she needs anything, that her DH carries it in his pocket (like her vows or whatnot).
ps: i think it's very sweet that your cousin is asking you for advice

i dont see a problem in telling her that way.
She should def have what she wants However, i do think she should have options and be mindful of the guests as well

I'd just tell her- it's her day, she should get what she wants. Just because it's a buffet doesn't mean the guests have to like EVERY single thing put out there. As long as they have a few options, it should be fine!!!

Same here. If they don't want to eat it, they don't have to.

Exactly. I have tons of food issues, but I'd never expect someone to alter their menu based on me. I choose to live this lifestyle, and it's not always convenient, but it's my choice to live with.
But HELL YEAH did we alter our menu based of US for OUR wedding!
