How would you take this...(poll)

How would you take this...(poll)

If someone addressed you as 'Sweets'

It depends on how it was delivered, if you get what I mean.

I use it all the time, but always positively.

oooh, that's a tough call. I'd take it positively FOR NOW, to give the benefit of the doubt.

It would depend who it's coming from. From someone I know, no issue. If it's someone I don't know or someone I don't have that kind of familiar relationship with, it would irk me.

I do have the habit of calling people 'sweetie' but it's always positive. I'm trying to break myself of that habit.

Totally depends, but usually negative. Any guy who called me that, other than DH of course, and we'd have a problem.

If a girl called me that I'd find it endearing.

I use that term
I have no idea where it came from, but now it is just a bad habit. Same as when I saw Monsters Inc and started calling DH Boo. He hated that

positive, but i'm from the south, everyone [especially women] call other women/girls 'sweetie' or 'sweetheart.'

Depends on the context, like what else was said in the email... if it was a friendly email I guess I'd see it in a positive way..

One of my male friends has called me Sweets since I met him so from him it's a term of endearment - anyone else, I don't think I'd see it as that.

eta - It's also acceptable from LIW people

I call you sweets all the time...

Depends on who it is from. If it is from a friend, that is fine. If it is from a random person or a coworker/business associate, it would annoy me. But I get annoyed when random people call me any of those things - honey, sweets, sweetie....

i think it's meant to be nice

nice or not - if you dont like it it needs to stop.

my wise azz would probably begin addressing that person as 'sweets' back or be very blunt and say going forward please address all emails to me with my GIVEN name. it will also be written so you have your evidence when you feel ready to go to HR - and you could maybe lets sweets know that too.

dont be afraid to be a b!tch - its your NAME - not a shirt or something that can change. i take the name thing very seriously.

unless it was coming from DH, my family or a close friend, I wouldn't like it at all.
