Re: how'd you know he was 'the one'

A month after we started dating I moved from DC (where we live) back to NY for my masters program-- I was a hysterical mess since nothing had ever felt this right in my entire life. I thought he was the one but thought I was ruining it by leaving but I couldn't turn this program down. We continued to date but allowed to see other people (we didnt') until a year later when he broke up with me saying he thought he wanted to marry me but hadn't dated a lot so wanted to see what else was out there.

I was crushed and devasted and dating a bit but was still in love with him...long story short I moved back to DC after finishing my program and we started dating again, he was still figuring stuff out but everythign seemed right with us, he took care of me and loved me like no one else, was my best friend. I had faith sicne I thought this was it, although at times it was hard. 5 years after restarting dating, we got engaged and it has been nothign but magic ever since.

I had wanted to get married for so long, but am SO glad we waited until it was right for both of us since now it IS so amazing.

DOn't know if that helped but that's us....

I actually knew he was the one from the first time we met. So did he. (The day we met he text messaged his friend to tell her that he met his future wife - but I did not find this out until after we were engaged).

How I knew - he had this aura about him that was so calming and fun to be arround. We liked a lot of the same things and had a lot of things in common with one another.

I will say I had a date scheduled with someone else - whom I met the week before I met FH and I called this guy up and cancelled the date (it would have been a first date) and told this guy I think I met my FH.

FH and I could spend hours together talking aobut anything. He understood all of my dreams, fears, insicurites, wishes and really got me. I think I can say that I got him the same way. I did not have to explain myself. He just understood me intuitively.

We enjoy spending time with one another and love each other for who we are. No need to change. Just grow together.

I will definately say the addage of you will meet the person youare meant to be with when you are not looking for him.

The advice I used to like to give my single friends (who are now almost all coupled and engaged themselves) was be yourself. Find things that you like to do and do them. Do not sit and wait for anyone. If they are the right one they will be there too. It is ok to approach guys you are interested in, but let them make the first move to ask you out. They all like the thrill of the chase. Don't be easy but don't be cruel. Always be honest and straight forward so that you treat someone else the way you would want to be treated. A little luck never hurts either. Also a relationship is work, but it should fun work.
