so my mother and I went to a dress store in woodbury so she could show me the dress she tried on on monday, I didn't like it, but the sales woman insisted she looked AMAZING in the dress and told her that because of her height (she's 5'1, i'm 4'10) that she'll look like a mushroom in a fuller skirt (wow, um hi, my skirt is REALLY full and I'm SHORTER than my mother)... that I didn't like, and honestly, this dress hugged my mother- and not in a good way. I asked her to try on a few others... she was allowed to try on one. there was an impressions dress that i knew would look good, my mother wanted to try it, but the owners husband (I assume thats who it was) ran over and spoke with the employee... and I heard him whisper.. 'she doesn't want to spend a lot of money, I know this dress is under her limit, but I think we can squeeze a little more money out of her' are you for real!? at that point I turned to my mother and said 'we're leaving' I didn't even tell her what they said... I felt bad, because I know she's on a budget.. and so far everything she liked has been WAY over budget.
ohhhh and to make the experience worse we were outside the fitting room waiting for the woman to pull the dresses I was asking about, we were chatting with a woman who was there with her friend, we mentioned what a hard time we're having finding a dress and she said 'have you tried some stores on the (looks around)... (whisper) south shore?' I just looked at her and said 'We're from the... (whisper) south shore' and my mother followed up with 'we're just visiting the oh-so-amazing north shore'
yea... I think we embarrassed the woman, but the way she said it was like a stab at the southshore...

You should share the name of the store so that we all avoid it too!

Somehow the dress places are even WORSE for MOB/MOG gowns than they are for wedding gowns! I had such a bad experience with my mom at Totally You in Bellmore. Granted, we still purchased a dress from there, but from the under $200 rack, much to the saleslady's chagrin. She kept trying to push $500+ dresses on my mom and we were not biting!

Wow...I can't believe how some people act! Sometimes I don't buy things based on principle if the person is being rude and I ALWAYS write a letter, complain to the better business bureau and voice my opinions on websites.

Have you tried Elena's Bridal Couture in Merrick? They don't have the largest selection, as compared to some other stores, but their customer service is amazing!

Are you fcuking kidding me?? I'm so proud with how you handled that!! How R-U-D-E!!
I now live in huntington with FH, but was raised in west babylon and everything is sooooo much more expensive! FHs friends (all from h-ton) kid around with me and say 'oh she's from the south shore' hahaha. Well ya know what F* you! Even though I know they're joking.. and not for nothing, but its the same sh!t, so I don't know why ppl make such a big deal and raise prices.

Re: ::huff: the nerve of some people...
it was something with a 'D' dinas or something.. my fathers co-workers suggested it.
my mother was nice enough to the guy to go upto him and say 'is dina here?' and he said no and she gave him hair product for her to try because on monday my mother mentioned she's a hair dresser and dina had mentioned her hair has been really dry... I hate the fact that I let my mother be NICE to this guy... he's so lucky I was having an off day because I was ready to rip him a new one...

OMG what a day!!!
First off, GOOD FOR YOU for leaving the store! Screw the husband! That's utterly disgusting! And also stupid, why would you say something like that out in the open? I don't care if he thought no one was around, that's something you say in a different language or in the BACK!
Also, the mushroom thing? the saleswoman is an idiot. Plain and simple.
And the 'north shore' woman? wow can she GET any snobbier?? UGH! I am DISGUSTING with your experience!
