Huge time gap btw ceremony and reception- what to do??
Hi ladies,
Unfortunately, I have about 3 hours of free space btw the ceremony and reception... i can't change the times because both places won't let us so now I am trying to figure out some ideas of what to offer our guests to keep them occupied.
So here is the story:
Ceremony is in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Reception is at Chateau Briand Weather will be freezing bc it's a winter wedding
I'm leaning towards getting a small party bus for OOT guests... there will probably be about 30 OOT and bringing them to the Holiday Inn next door for drinks on us...
i feel like this sounds cheesy though... i need help please. All of my friends from the city and elsewhere are asking me and I have no answers for them :(
thanks so much!!!

when are you taking pics? why not take indoor pics at Old Westbury Gardens or Sand Point during this time? retouch your makeup / hair?
I know Jericho Terrace has a room for guest to wait for bride and groom and the serve cheese, wine etc.
Does Chateau accomodate early guest? I personally wouldnt stress over trying to please everyone every sec of your BIG day - they can wait! but if you really want to, i think the Holiday Inn idea is very nice! but i just know myself - the reception is enough..

We had a bus take people from the hotel to the reception. Most of my OOT guests came right to the ceremony and then went to the hotel after to check in. My in-laws held a little soda/wine party in their suite and then got on the bus to the reception. While they were taking pics with us my BIL's girlfriends hosted.
For my parents friends my 'uncle' hosted everyone at my parents house. But most locals went home between. The few OOTers who came but didn't stay over at the hotel found a local bar and went together.
I have been to plenty of weddings with time to kill in between. If they were local I usually went home and invited any used to be local friends to come over. If they were OOT we went to the hotel and entertained ourselves. I wouldn't worry about it, people figure things out for themselves.

I don't think they gap will be that big. From the time your guests leave brooklyn and then to get over to CB its probably going to knock an hour off of the down time They will find a way to entertain themselves with the hotel bar and also with check. There are lots of places over there. Don't stress.

Exactly. Most adults have been to weddings before and anticipate a gap between the ceremony and reception. If they are staying at a hotel, they can always go back there to relax for a bit before the reception starts. I wouldn't stress!

I too have a 3 hour gap between the end of my mass and cocktail hour. Personally, I'm not worrying about what everyone is going to do. Many people will go home and change. You can't worry about in between plans for everyone, it'll drive you crazy.
If you want to take the OOT'ers to the hotel that's nice but keep in mind, if you use a bus to get them there how are they going to get home the following day? And can they even check in yet or are they going to be hanging around the bar/lobby for 2 hours.

I have a two hour gap, and my venue is literally down the street from my church. Anyone who lives local can gohome and freshen up, and others can go to the hotel and get ready. They will see what time everything is, so they can entertin themselves...Don't sweat it!
