One of my favorite movies is Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. If you have never seen it, it’s basically about being able to erase a memory or something traumatic that happened in your life (a break-up or a death). If this could really happen – would you erase anything? Or would you let life be?
I would definitely let life be. I’m a true believer that every thing happens for a reason. And I think you learn and grow from your experiences in life. Although it seems like a really interesting concept, I don’t think I would want to erase anything from my past.
I hope everyone has a great day!!

I believe the same Jess, that the past makes you who you are today.
But, there are somethings I would erase but would rather not say.

Essentially i do believe everything happens for a reason but at the same time I wish i could erase my dad's death and bring him back to us

AGREED! i will let life be as it has happened in my life. I'm also a true believer in what happens, happens and what is meant to be will be.
All of my past experience made me the person I am today and I have learned to be a better person from my past.

I would want to let everything play out the way it did because Iw ould be afraid that I wouldn't be who I am today without everything happening...
however, I wish I could erase some traumatic events.... (i.e. my dads strokes..... my grandfather/great grandmother dying.... etc---esp since my great grandmother died in my arms.......)
but I am definitely a believer in .. THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON

IM THE SAME, It all happens for a reason. i also feelliek if you altered it then something else maybe more drastic would happen. So i totally believe in live & learn & that which does not kill you will make you stronger.

I definitely wouldn't erase anything. I like who I am and where I am at today. I don't think I would be here if it weren't for everything in my past. Good and bad.

I feel the same way. everything happens for a reason. I would like to say the only thing I would change is my grandma dyeing but then I would feel selfish keeping her here while she was in pain. so maybe I would change that fact that she got cancer to begin with, then I would have her here with me on my wedding day. but I knwo she will be in spirit

I'm with you on this 100%. I've always said we are who we are today bcuz of the experiences we've been thru.

THats an interesting question... I think that everything from my past has made me who I am today. If didn't learn or grow from those things, then I wouldn't be as strong as I am now. SO I wouldn't erase a thing. As painful as it may have been, I have grown from them.

i would be tempted to erase ever accepting a job at my current employer but i think the experience serves its purpose in the whole grand scheme of things.

ESOTSM is actually my favorite movie of all time! I think that the message behind it is really beautiful (you love who you love and there is no changing that). The secondary message of the movie is that you can't runaway from your past. Between that and the therapist in me who think it's important to live through life traumas to become a better person, I would never erase my memory to be able to deal with it easier.
There is actually a drug out now called Propranolol that if taken within a certain time frame of a SPECIFIC event like a rape or a beating it can help to erase the memory because it blocks out part of the emotional response which causes that memory to stick in your mind so strongly. There's a lot of controversy around it as to whether it is ethical or not to prescribe, or even take the drug. 60 minutes did a piece on it, you can go to their website and search it and find the clips.

I believe everything happens for a reason, so no. I also believe things that happen to us, happy or sad ,define who we are.

Re: Hump Day QOTD!
Honestly when I first read this. There were several times in my life that I would just love to forget. But unfortunately, then, I would not be who I am today. So it is better to just leave well enough alone. God brings us to situations to get us through them and to make us better people. I will leave my experiences, my future, my destiny in His hands and I know 'If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it'
My new moto....'It's only for now'
Bad times are temporary....Joy is FOREVER!!

I wouldn't want to erase any memory, even the bad ones, because I definately learned from all of them. I do wish I could go back in time and fix how I may have treated one or two people in the past.
