Oh, no. We planned to honeymoon in the Mayan Riviera, leaving next Monday. But now Hurricane Emily is supposed to hit that area--on Monday!
Poor FH, I think he's even more upset about this than I am. The honeymoon was his favorite part of the wedding planning...
Anyway, we can try to cancel and try to rebook another trip somewhere else, but we would lose $600 at this point. We need to decide. I have the feeling if we cancel and lose that money, this hurricane will turn out to be nothing. I'm really not sure what to do. Neither one of us can postpone and take it soon--we'd probably have to postpone our honeymoon until late fall or winter.

Re: Hurricane Emily
I know- its terrifing! I am leaving for Jamaica on Monday too. I think its supposed to pass it by but who knows. I would just hope for the best- no one really knows where these storms are headed.
This guy has been really helpful posting reports about storms- he works for NOAA.
www.chris-n-cheryl.com- click on the whitehouse link and then the whitehouse forum- he has a post devoted to Emily and not just about Jamaica.
Good Luck and I will be thinking about you on Sat, date twin!!!

Re: Hurricane Emily
I thought you were going to the Caribbean also, so I'll be hoping for the best for you also, ckgm! Doesn't this suck? We chose July for our wedding mainly because we figured it would be free of hurricanes, compared to August, September, and October!

Re: Hurricane Emily
I just looked up the path of Emily on weather underground's website. I have never heard of a hurricane hitting Aruba before, but it looks like it's heading staright for it! yikes!
as for your HM, call you travel agent ASAP and find out about your travel insurance. I'm not sure what kind you have, but the kind we bought allows us to re-book our trip up until the day of the trip.

I'm sorry... I was just surprised. It probably won't be a direct hit, but it will pass by if it continues on this path.
don't worry!

Re: Hurricane Emily
Thanks for all the info. If it turns into a hurricane and flights are suspended, we should only a small amount transfering the flight. I think we're going to hang tight, hope for the best, and if the storm is awful, change our plans. We were originally considering Quebec City, and FH asked the agent about availability if we were to switch. They have some packages that are actually cheaper than our current honeymoon. So either way, we would have a trip.
