I can not stop checking weatherchannel.com. This hurricane is bad. I pray for allthose folks down there.
If 'the big one' hit Long Island and we were told to evacuate...where would you go and what would you bring?

My parents have a house upstate in the mountains so we'd most likely go there. I'd bring my entire family and items that could never be replaced (pictures.. etc.).

Re: Hurricane Ike...now with an actual question!
I would pack up my truck, my dog and as much of my belongings i could fit. If my DH did not want to go because of work (he is an insane workaholic) I would leave without him. I would drive and drive probably north until i got to a safe location and stay at a hotel.
I already told DH that i would leave without him if he decided to stay and work was more important than his life, which basically it is, but its not more important than mine.

maybe dh's house in the poconos but obviously only if that area wouldnt be effected. As far as what I would take WOW that would be hard bc im one of those ppl who save everything so it would be hard picking. Right now I'd take clothes, wedding pics, my boxes of memory stuff, all my pics actually. If i had enough time i'd probably just box up as much as i could hahaha.

OMG, It's horrible w/ all the storms hitting TX!!. It's nuts that some people resueed to evacuate when they had the chance.
I would pack my car w/ whatever I could fit...(clothes, pics, whatever) to Drive south to where my family lives.

I would pack up all identifying documents, a few grand in cash, my pictures and load up DH's car and just drive west with Brutus.
It would be hard getting my family to leave but I wouldn't leave until they did so they couldn't back out at the last minute

Most of you are too young to remember gloria over 20 years ago. It wasn't that terrible and it was the worst the island has seen in a very long time. We had no power for a week and there was some damage with a lot of trees down but not a devasting scene. I actually had to deal with a mandatory emergency evacution back in '95 if anyone remembers the 'Sunrise Fire'. I was 6 months pregnant and it was 1 am when we got the knock on the door and were told to leave. All you could see in the yard is a huge orange glow and the fire coming right at our house. Our house was one of the lucky ones to not burn. My exhusband would not leave, he stayed with a hose in hand. We had a lot of animals that got packed up to go and took all the stuff we could.

i remember hurrican gloria. Sadly it was even more than 20 years ago it was 23. I remember being at home and so scared. But what i remember most is when it was finally over and going out, all you saw where trees down everywhere, trees had fallen on cars. Windows broken on store windows.
ETA: sorry you said OVER 20 years ago hahaha...i just had to point out exactly for myself bc i cant believe how long ago it was and made me feel so old

I remember Gloria, me and DH were just talking about it with my mom! We had no power for a week straight and our backyard looked like a jungle with all of the trees that came down. The block next to mine was flooded above car levels and all of us kids got in trouble for swimming in the street!
