Hydrangea experts-- HELP!

Ok so ihave been planning on using hydreangeas since day ONE.

my stepmom was talking with a florist and he said Dont use hydrangeas because during the time that i will be married (July 1) they will not stand up to the heat and my BoKs and centerpieces will be wilted by the middle of the day.

everywhere i read says that hydrangeas are HARDY flowers which to me means they can stand the heat.

What do you guys think?

I heard they can't stand the hit and they wilt and look ugly... sorry. maybe you can get silk ones to mix in with your other real flowers

He might be right bc july 1st is not peak season locally its more the end of july to the end of august. Any time you get a flower from somewhere else (besides locally) they wont stand up as well because its been longer since theyve been cut

hydrangeas are actually a very steardy flower which is why its used so commonly in yards and gardens but if its not in season then all bets are off!

A hardy plant is one that survives very cold winters (once planted)
Hydrangea flowers are actually very delicate and do not like the sun or heat.

I used Hydrangeas, outdoors, under a tent, in September and they were okay.

so i guess the hydrangeas are out

what's next? i loved the violet/blue color of those flowers and the fact that it is a natural color.

last week i bought some hydrangea for my house (i LOVE them)
brought them home put it in a vase in about 3 hours they were all mushy looking... i guess because i bought them outside it was much cooler and when i brought them in to my 'warm' room they died...i was totaly upset... i guess your florist is right they are not as hardy

I had a hydrangea bok, this was for a wedding I was in this past January. It wilted- rather quickly. The CP's were also completely wilted by the end of the night. I met with 3 florists and none of them would use hydrangeas for my flower girll kissing balls, they all said the flowers were too fragile.

If you're looking for a similar effect maybe bunches of dendrobium orchids mixed with cockscomb? Look at the below, it has mini callas as well.

Well my mom from the start told me not to use them and my florist just reaffirmed that saying that you could get away with it during the early spring, but for hotter months, they will wilt. And he said he would never use them in a BoK, centerpieces a different story.

I have to agree with the florist too. They are beautiful flowers but I can totally see them being weak in heat.

I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and took the centerpiece home that had hydrangeas in it and they didnt last a day even in water in my house....and this was in april! JMO

Hydrangeas start wilting as soon as they are out of water.

I am using hydrangeas in August for the centerpieces, it is no problem because they will be in water. My florist told me not to use hydrangeas in the boquets because they will not withstand the heat out of the water.
You'll be fine with them as centerpieces though!
