hydrangeas

hydrangeas

Has anyone had or knows someone who has had hydrangeas for their wedding flowers? I am getting married at the end of Dec. and I am hearing all sorts of bad things about the flowers...like I am going to pay a bundle for them in the winter and they don't last long.

What have you heard bad about them? I am having white ones in my CP's and I want them to decorate my church pews, I love that they have that thickness and that they are full

I have heard that in the winter they will be sooo expensive, which really isn't killing me...but I have heard that many florists try to talk you out of them because they die quickly...something about needing a lot of water. Your centerpieces should be fine because there will be water for them, but I want them as my BK, so that is where I hear the problem comes in!

I am also using hydrangeas as my bo-k...but big difference with us is that im getting married in June. Sorry i can't help you on that front.

The two florists I have been to haven't tried to talk me out of them, but FM said that if it was a really hot day 95+ that I should switch them because they won't hold. They said as long as they have an individual water source they should be fine & those can be covered by a ribbon. HTH.

Ohhhh Ok, you want them as a BK. Why doesnt your florist provide for you that plastic stem filled with water to stick into your BK, that will keep them fresh all day long. I love those flowers, I think they are amazing. Dont worrty they should figure something out

I had 3 very fragile flowers in my centerpieces: lilac, hydrangea and peony. They lasted the whole night through. I would get them if its what you realyl want.

I love hydrangias!! I bet they would last through the night if the florist cares for them correctly! Also, the price will def depend on who your florist is. Sometimes they can be what some people consider pricey. If you really really want them but don't want to pay loads of money for them, try checking out Flowers by Burton. They charge based on quantity, not flower type- this can work to your advantage if you want pricey flowers!!

I had hydrangeas in my CPs in November and they held up great. Last year, however, I was a BM in a wedding in February and our bo-ks were hydrangea and they didn't make to the reception. We all walked in to the party without our bo-ks because they were brown and wilted. However, they weren't in water...I think if your florist puts those water stem thingies on them you will be okay. Love hydrangea!

On pricing....i want everything hydrangea because i too love them (the blue/green antique-y looking ones) and i was nervous about the price. I think i got really good pricing for them. I told a florist that i would like hydrangea's for my BM but i would do roses if they were cheaper. He told me that hydgrangeas where more cost-effective. I was really happy about that.

My wedding was in February. I had Hydrangea in my CP. But my florist advised against having them in my bo-k because they were more likely to be touched and because of freezing temperatures and being inside and outside...

They lastest beautifully in the CP's though....

Re: hydrangeas

I had CPs and boquets with hydrangeas. The CPs were fine because they were in water all night. I would NOT recommend them for boquets. They barely lasted until the ceremony before wilting, and they looked terrible for most of the day (that's with the water source in the bouquet). They need a ton of water, and I just don't think they are meant to hold up that long. If I could go back, I would have chosen another flower that could hold up better.
