I actually need to STOP doing the no dance!!

I actually need to STOP doing the no dance!!

Well here I was doing the no dance, and I got my wish, at the cost of others.

We got 2 responses yesterday. One from my brother (yes for 2) and one from my parents neighbors (no for 4) so I was happy with that.

Then FH calls his grandparents to thank them for his bday gift they sent (his bday is on the 24th) and they proceed to tell him that they won't come to the wedding because it's too far of a drive (5 hours) and that what if some health problem develops, they won't be close to home. However, they will see him at his cousin's wedding in NH in November.

He's extremely pissed and upset. I kind of saw this coming, because his grandparents weren't doing well over the holidays, but now they say they're doing better, but cutting out on him anyway. He thinks their excuse is frivilous, and I tried to remind him that they're not young anymore and we have no idea what they are going through.

I don't know what to tell him. He is close to them and really wanted them to be there to see us get married.

Awe...I can see why he's upset, but your rationalization seems correct. But anyway.

Can you guys offer to help pay for a plane ticket? Maybe they would be willing to come then. Inform them of the hospitals in the area and assure them that they will receive good care should anything arise.

Taking a plane wouldn't work because there's no major airport close to them that flies to NY. They would have to fly out of Boston, which is an hour ride from where they are, and then it takes an hour to us from JFK. And even with that, it would make no sense since they don't drive. One of the family members would have to drive them. The rest of his family is driving down, and the original plan was his cousin would drive them.

FH tried to explain that we have some of the best hospitals close by if God forbid anything happened, but as stubborn as we are, he said they are 10 times more stubborn than us, and didn't want to hear it.

aww.... I know how he feels... my grandma has only met FH once when we first started dating, and my grandfather has never met him. They don't really care too much, but thats the way they are. I am not even sure they will come to the wedding, even though I know my dad (his parents) will be very upset with them if they don't come. I am the first grandchild to get married, and its like nothing, I am hurt by it, but what can I do?
for you rFH

Yup, same story. He's the first grandchild to have a wedding. His brother got married, but it was a civil ceremony during the brief time his state (OR) allowed gay marriage. He's also upset because as of December, they were coming, and all of a sudden now they're not.

Janna - Continental, Delta, and US Air all fly out of MacArthur airport. That is a lot closer than JFK, and I know Delta & US Air have a Boston shuttle. There is also LaGuardia, which is easier to get to than JFK. Not to mention the fact that you have friends that will go get them at MacArthur. (hint, hint)

Thanks, my dear pool partner, it's why I love ya!!!

FH spoke to his parents today and he told me that it's definite his grandparents are not coming now no matter how we are willing to accommodate them. So while FH is really upset about it, he's accepting it.

I am so sorry to hear that. My grandfather is very sick and doesn't have much time to live, he is 94 and if he passes on, my grandmother doesn't know if she wants to attend my wedding. I hope it doesn't resort to this.

Sorry to hear that a few cannot make it. At least they will be there in sprit with you all. I have family that are deciding to come based on medical issues too. My uncle has extreme asthma and tried to travel a year ago and had to go to a hospital in N. Carolina. It was not good so I don't think they are coming.
Sorry your you guys and I hope that eveyone else can make it!
Sorry but I am sitll doing my NO dance. I only got one response so far. Uh-Oh
