I am a baseball nerd...

...and I am very excited for tonight's home run derby! I love watching it every year. My household's rooting for Jim Thome!

I love the homerun derby too. I was rooting for Ken Griffey Jr. but he had to withdraw from the derby and the All Star Game so I am probably going to root for Palmerio.

i'm not a big 'all star game' fan -- it's more of a show than anything else

plus, in the middle of playoff races and what not, you're at risk of injury when you put your best players out there.

I like how football does it -- the week after the superbowl

Then I am a nerd too - Dh and I were talking about it on the way to work today. I was making fun of Giambi for dropping out of the derby for a parasite but yet still play in the All Star game - strange to me....

Denise, I agree with you on this too. He should of withdrawn from both.

Good point -- but I still get a kick out of the show!

Didn't know that Giambi was still in the game. Definitely a weird decision.

I believe his excuse is that he's still weak and the derby takes a lot more out of him then 2-3 innings of an all-star game would. The home run derby is more difficult then the game.

I agree Don. I hate everything about the all star game, especially that it's done in the middle of the season. They should play a week after the season ends. That would also prevent people for being voted on because of their name. You'll have a whole season to determine if they are an all star rather then 2 months.
