For some reason, the idea of a female officiant is bothering me. And believe me, I am not a sexist person at all.....I guess I just always pictured a man marrying us.....
anyone else feel this way?
PS we are not religious and not getting married in a church. Our next order of business is to find an officiant to marry us at the Fox Hollow.

I don't think it makes you a bad person. I can understand where you're coming from. I was talking to a minister online for a while and when i realized they were a woman i kinda freaked out. I just wasnt expecting it.
Did you talk to the people at the Fox Hollow. They have clergy they can recomend. I have the list here too if you're interested as well as other names. FM me if you want.

Your not a terrible person me & FH feel the same way. I am not sexist either but I think its cause I always imagined a man marrying me. We are getting married at the RH and booked a male officiant so don't feel bad I feel the same way!

Re: I am a terrible person
I do not think it makes you a bad person. But, I think it could be wonderful. My friend was married by a female judge, and she gave the most inspiring, wonderful speech/sermon/whatever you want to call it.
I'm getting married in a Catholic Church, and I'm really nervous b/c, at the last few weddings/christenings I have gone to, the priest has taken time out of his sermon to say nasty things to people there for not going to church regularly (e.g., at the Christening he said 'if you are not in a state of grace then you should leave now and just go straight to the party'). A wedding or a christening is a joyous occassion, and lots of the people in attendance are not Catholic, and I just feel like it's a terrible way to detract from the couple's/baby's special day.
Sorry for veering a little off topic - but, in the end, I think a woman officiant will be great.

Yeah - I have their recommendations also. We haven't made any appointments yet - we just finally did photo last night and this is our next 'vendor'.
Did you meet with any of the Fox Hollow recommendations? Who are you using?

You are definitely not a terrible person! You need to be comfortable with who is going to marry you! You don't want to be saying your vows and I Do's and not be happy!!

I am so glad you posted this b/c I though I was the only one who was against a female officiant. (and actually felt bad about it). I have no clue why. I am not against a woman being a priest or rabbi or anything like that, but I just don't want one to marry us.
