I am depressed and Confused

I am depressed and Confused

As most of you know that I am miserable at the job I have been working at for the past 6 years. I would like to quit and go somewhere else. I know I need to go back to school and get my BA in something, but im not sure exactly what I should do yet. I know that I will not last working at the current company another few months and I know I need to leave now....I am burnt, miserable and have been in a crappy mood for the past few months...and I am sure Danielle hasnt been to happy with the way I have been acting.

Do you think it would be a bad idea for me to quit my job and get a job car detailing at a car dealer for the time being....go back to school and be a little happier until I find something else? I know I may take a pay cut but I will still be making money detailing cars on the side....Thats tax free money, since I have my own business.

My mother in law also said that the school she works at may be hiring for night janitors. She said that there is oportunity to make decent money, and the benefits, and retirement are excellent. Does anyone here have a DH that is a Janitor in a school??

I don't know what to do...and I need advice....
Thanks,
Scott

I would do what you feel is right. If you're so miserable at your job and you're taking that home with you then it's not going to be good for your relationship. If you have some prospects in mind and will be able to make ends meet right now then I say go for it and be happy!

All of that sounds good. I know how stress and being unhappy can effect a person, and you'll be much happier if you leave the job, and so will danielle once you're happier. Plus I've heard school custodians make agood money..more than the teachers

I hate my job, too.

But, until something else comes along, I just keep reminding myself that this isn't my future. It's just something to help get me there!

Think about what you want to do in the long run...you might be taking a pay cut now, but going back to school should definitely give you more possibilities in the future. Good luck with such a tough decision!

Life is to short to be unhappy. If leaving your job and doing something else will help, then do it. Good luck!!!

i agree i think if you miserable i think you should leave and if you can afford to take the pay cut for now the quicker you should do it.

i think if you're this misersable at your job and it's spilling out onto your home life - you need to quit. You don't deserve to be miserable!
I know that one of the custodians at my school makes oodles of money - so that might be good for you - you can do that during the day and go to school at night, while detailing on the side.
Save up some money and make your life happier!
Good luck!

Just remember that if you have to choose - it's better to be happy than to be rich

Re: I am depressed and Confused

Well I was not getting rich from working at the company I have been working at. They are very cheap...and they do not take care of the employees that do the work....Only a certain few people get the raises and the promotions.....Gotta love office politics

You need to do what is best for you and your wife. In the end even though now it is only affecting you, it will affect her, Danielle too and possibly your relationship. not saying you will let it go that far, but in some cases it can.

I always follow what my gut tells me is the best decision, because when I did not follow it, I went down the wrong path.

You need to be happy in all apsects of life including your job, I say just do it.

I had a friend whose DH worked as a janitor for BOSES. He was in a union, his dad did it too for many years. Not sure what he made, but it would give you time to do detailing and go to school.

Re: I am depressed and Confused

Can you get a job at another company doing what you are doing that may pay better and treat you better and then go back to school at night? Solve one problem at a time.

Re: I am depressed and Confused

I am going to try to get a job at another company. I thought about it over night and I came to the decision that its not worth it to go back to working for a car dealer, and taking that big of a cut...I just have to put a lot of resumes out and see what happens....Hopefully I will find something soon...

I have been really down about my job and stuff and I guess I havent had such high hopes on what I could really get. I have a lot of computer experience and almost 6 years of working in an office...Now I just have to sell myself to another company....

Re: I am depressed and Confused

You can do it and you will be amazed at how your skills are marketable and how another company will treat you differently. We've all been through this before in some way or another. It's just that you are stuck in the situation and you need something to unstick you, if that makes sense. Do something proactive and it will get unstuck. Wallpaper the earth with your resume and go on lots of interviews. You may even find a firm that will pay for the education. I know I did.

This is not easy and nobody said it's going to be. Keep focused and try to take one step at a time. Give yourself realistic timeframes and deadlines and put your best foot forward. You are your biggest fan and your toughest critic. Knock down the brick wall and get moving before you are forced to and it's out of your control. Good luck Scott, I am pulling for you. Pep talk over!
