I am embarassed to admit - gown long vent

I am embarassed to admit - gown long vent

Okay,

I am embarrassed to even admit this. I posted earlier about trying on my dress and it being SO heavy. Well, I am getting really upset about it. I am not looking forward to wearing my own dress. I keep wishing I could pick something out that is lighter and more comfortable. I Love to dance and I dont' know if I will be able to.

It ***** that dresses take so long to come in b/c that means you have to order it so early and now, I feel like my taste has changed. Omigod. What do I do? I feel like such an a$$.

There is no such thing as returning an ordered dress is there? And besides where would I get a new one in time.

I am such an idiot. There are just too many decisions involved in this wedding thing. i think i am getting overwhelmed...

what about geting a bridesmaid dress in white or off white that you can change into to dance - this way you get the best of both worlds - the dress for pics and pdress to dance in

I am so sorry, I think a lot of people get cold feet when it comes to their dress and the truth is you can always try to sell it on ebay or 2006 board or something like that, or talk to your seamstress and see if she has any recommendations. I know the whole bridal planning thing can drive us all bonkers and I'm sorry that you're going through it!

I say keep the dress, and buy something very simple for the reception inexpensively. Go to JCrew, they now have a very inexpensive line of wedding wear.

Don't worry, my taste changes every other day.

ME TOO!! I love the look and feel of the lighter fabrics and totally planned on getting that (especially b/c i am getting married in Aug). BUT, my dress is much heavier than I thought or wanted b/c I did not get a lighter fabric.

I have kept myself sane about this b/c I just keep thinking that I will feel beautiful no matter what and my dress is beautiful no matter what. And I know I will be happy and if I dance and get a little warm - no biggie - it used to happen at the clubs all the time and I survived! You will too. Just embrace your dress and love it b/c you will love wearing it. Don't stress!

I also LOVE the idea of getting a white BM dress to change into! Fantastic suggestion!

I like what other people said about getting a white bridesmaids dress or more casual dress to wear for the reception. Try JCrew or BCBG online, through the catalog or in the store (JCREW and BCBG are both at Roosevelt Field mall). I know they have a less expensive line of wedding dresses that are light and casual and they are beautiful from the pictures that I saw. You can also try selling your dress either back to the bridal store or on ebay and maybe buying a good sample. They always have good sample sales going on. But if you keep the dress, see if they can maybe remove some of the crinolin underneath or you can work with the seamstress on how to make it lighter. I read in a recent bridal magazine that most brides are unsure about thier gown choice when they try it on for the first fitting and feel great about it by the final fitting.

My gown was really heavy too but come wedding day, I had no problem moving around and dancing all night. Its one of those things you dont even notice b/c you are on cloud nine the whole day.

The fact that you are concerned about the weight of the dress and the fact that it may prevent you from enjoying your reception in my opinion is enough for you to start looking at other dresses....

If you were just unsure as to whether you loved the look of the dress etc, then I would say you picked it for a reason and its probably lovely but if you feel like you are not going to be able to do anything other than a waltz and you really love to get your grove on....then you should start looking...

But ......you should sleep on it too just in case you feel diffrent tomorrow and another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes if we have a few bevvies in us we forget about heavy dresses, tight corsets, too small shoes etc....not that I am suggesting that you should start chugging back the champers the morning of the wedding.... Good Luck!!

I agree - my DH stepped on and broke my bustle as we were walking into the CH while this is not something I planned for, it really wasn't that big a deal. I danced my butt off and had a wonderful time. For the short time it was bustled, the train did feel lighter.

Call the place where you ordered your dress IMMEDIATELY. If the dress has not gone into 'production' yet-- you'll be able to use your deposit towards another dress.

I cancelled a dress a couple days after I ordered-- I let my mom talk me to into something I didn't love..

I bought the first gown I tried on. 6 months later I bought another one because I changed my mind and it kept bugging me. I managed to sell the other one on ebay for a fraction of what i originally payed for it.
I though my FH was going to flip but he just wanted to be happy and to have me stop talking about how I wasn't sure about the gown I bought.

Thank you all so much for your support and your great ideas. I don't know what I am going to do, but I do agree I need to sleep on it.

It is so nice to hear I am not alone in second guessing my dress. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I think I will call the bridal salon and ask them if there is anyhting I can do, but I am pretty sure they are going to tell me that I signed a contract and there are no returns.

Sometimes i just feel like

But I love LIW!!!!!!!!!!!

Second guessing a dress is totally normal!!!

I agree with Steph - you won't notice it on the day of. That is the attitude I am going into my day with (I have alot of dress concerns, and actually think my dress is TOO fancy, but thats another story) and that is what I think will come out of it.

Good Luck!

oh - and if you do want to get a new dress, that would not be a first either! Totally ok, don't call yourself names...be nice to yourself! This is not easy...

keep the dress!
You wear it for one day, and LOVE it!
You'll look beautiful!

Melania could walk in a 50lb dress, so will you be able to!

You could look into buying a sample dress off the rack.

I'm a two dress bride as well. I was able to actually return my dress and put that money towards my new dress (which was $300 cheaper anyway :) )

it's actually more common than you think, secondguessing the gown.

i too wanted something i could dance in, and light and flowing and streamlined, but then everybody else in the world convniced me to go with a gown with five layers of tulle and satin and organza.

and yknow what, day of the wedding, i put on that dress and decided to go all the way, with a tiara and a long veil, and it was really fun. and yah it's harder to dance, but that's part of the day. because it's also super fun to swish around in a big skirt, and you do a lot more swishing and mingling than dancing at a wedding anyway.

(btw, it was a lot easier to dance to hiphop than the waltz in the dress.)

the most important thing is whether you think you look beautiful in it. coz at the end of the day, what's left are the pictures =P

and yah wedding planning *****. i'm so glad i'm done =)
