Ok here is my dilemma. I have to send out tonight my stationary to the calligrapher to be done and include how I want the invitations written. We are doing 'fill-in' invites.
Here are the examples:

1. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
request the honor of
Jane Smith
at the marriage of their daughter
Beth
to
Evan
on Sunday etc. etc.

OR

2. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
request the presence of
Jane Smith
at the marriage of their daughter
Beth
to
Evan
on Sunday etc. etc.

OR

3. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
request the pleasure of the company of
Jane Smith
at the marriage of their daughter
Beth
to
Evan
On Sunday etc. etc.

4. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Breuer
Cordially invite

Guest Name

to share their happiness as they celebrate
the marriage of their daughter
Beth
To
Evan
on
Sunday the thirtieth day of May
Two Thousand and Four
at half past four o'clock

request the presence sounds too much like a servent asking someone to coem into a nother room in a amnsio ( sorry too many soaps)

# 3 has too many ofs

#I like ''share their hapiness' because it sounds festive.

the share their happiness part sounds really nice

tourist- I agree, I think there might be too many ofs, and the presence thing does sound a little commanding.

but does the last one sound like its not a ceremony and just a celebration?

Shoud I make it say

Mr and Mrs. Ronald
cordially invite
Guest Name
to share their happiness
at the marriage of their daughter
Beth
to Evan

etc

OR

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald
reuqest the honor of
Guest Name
to share thier happiness
at the marriage of their daughter
Beth
to Evan

The first way. request the Honor of 'jane', doesn't sound right to me, personally.

WHere are you putting the details? After date & time are you putting the location?
then you can include recption info
underneath ( reception to follow)
or on a card if its at a separate place, then people will know that its a party too.

oh- i re-read.
So there is no ceremony?
Did it happen already?
then you could say ,
. . . cordially invite you to join in ( or join us in)a celebration to honor the marriage of ---- &------

I think I read somewhere that traditionally 'request the honor of your presence' is used when the marriage is to take place in a house of worship...but I'm not 100% sure...I would need to double check...

just FYI: honour/honor is for religious ceremonies -- presence or pleasure is for secular or more casual ceremonies
