I called out from work today because basically the roads over here stink. My boss had the nerve to call me at 8 this morning and leave a message that there is no excuse for me being out, so and so from two towns over made it in and so did a few people from Queens and how is it that I couldn't make it. Oh and she was over in Carle Place last night and the roads were fine. My job is an hour away from my house. Well, first off all the guy who made it in from two towns over has a truck, and she has a truck, which can get through a lot more than my car. Second, I tried to leave a little while ago and got stuck at the end of my block for 20 minutes (we live on a dead end and the plow left a huge clump of snow when he plowed the road. Third, my husband just called me and said the roads still stink and all he keeps seeing are tow trucks pulling people out and cops at accidents. Fourth, I asked last week for a snow chain so I could have the phone numbers of the guy that lives two towns over, if I had his number, I would have called and asked him to pick me up, but she never gave me the list she said she was making. Then she tells me the parkways were clear, well, thats nice but my problem is I CAN'T GET TO THE PARKWAYS!!!! Finally I said there is a reason they closed every school over here by me, the roads SUCK!!! Argh!! She then said well, hopefully we'll see you tomorrow!! She is so mean and not even just because of this.I have had numerous numerous problems with her. She doesn't give a rats behind about anything. She is the worst boss in the world. Ok vent over for now!! Needless to say, I am looking for a new job today so I can give them notice and get out of there!! I have had it with being treated like sh1t!!

awwww Im sorry! you boss does sound like a a$$ she needs to get a life and understand that you tried to come in and you couldn't just like methat is excately what happened to me this morning but i didn't even make it out of my parkinglot my wheel got stuck with the snow and when i was half way out my car would not go any further for my parking space the will will spinning but not moving so i had to force my car back into my parking space. sheesh i was not risking it. So i left a message with my boss and told him than i call the kitchen they have a seperate number and one of my co-workers answer and i told i am not coming in and i left a message with the boss. I just called him and he said dont worry i got your message see you tomorrow. he is cool but the other boss i have who has the same name as me is a b@tch she will give me a hard time tomorrow i am dreading that.

Wow people are nuts. I just got lectured on the phone by the secretary at my doctor's office about how I should've called to cancel my appointment at the time of my appoinment and I mean really lectured. She spoke to me like I was a child and went on and on about it. I felt like slapping her...too bad it was over the phone.

I'm sorry, people are jerks. They need to realize that even if the highways, etc. are fine, side streets can be really bad in different areas.

I had bosses like that once. They lived about 10 minutes from the office and had a DRIVER to take them in every day. Meanwhile, I lived 45 minutes away (in the mountains of NJ) and it was difficult to navigate the back roads by my house. Plus, I used to get a lot more snow at my house than they did at my office. The bosses used to give me a hard time, but I never backed down. I wasn't going to risk my life for a job. There were several times that I actually tried to get to the office, and by the time I'd get there, I'd be shaking from the experience of trying to get there through some really nasty weather.

That is EXACTLY how I feel!!! My boss lives 5 minutes from my job, me 45 minutes on a good day. The roads over here by me were really bad this morning, DH just came home and said they really cleaned them up a lot from when he left at 9 this morning. I was not going to risk my life for this crappy job. If it was a good job, sure I would of braved it out, but for what I get paid, I wasn't taking a chance.
Don, I totally understand too, I know she has a business to run, but I also have myself to look after. And the roads over here were horrible. I live on a dead end and they kinda plowed the end of the street in.And the way she called me this morning and the nasty message, there was no way in hell I was going in. Just because someone else made it in, doesn't mean crap to me. I look out for myself and not for what other people do!!
I hate this job, I am only there til something new comes through. Each day I wonder if I am going to quit by the end of the day because of how mentally, emotionally and physically draining it is. Truth is, the boss doesn't give a crap about anyone, not even the kids. Hell... I went into work saturday night in the middle of the blizzard. Now THAT was fun to deal with.

That is me to a tee also. I went to the hardware store and stayed there while my hubby shoveled me out. I was on the computer looking for a new job. This was crazy every 1/2 hour they were calling me to see where I was. they all live around the corner, me I have to travel. Now, I think I am going to get sick from this weather my throat is killing me. And my ear aches.

Thats the thing, taking a bus, train or cab would have defeated the purpose. I seriously would have spent the days pay on transportation to and from work. Just wasn't worth it to me!

I think it was maybe a year ago that we had a blizzard. The next day I ended up not going to work because the only train I have by me is the 7 which I have to take a bus to. Well, the 7 wasn't running at that stop, and there was a bus you could take to the next 7 stop, but the line was a whole block long. I called out because I don't see what the point of getting in to work at 11:30 is, and then having to worry about how I'm going to get home.
