I am so mad right now!! I just found out that my cousin ( whom I don't really care for) is having her engagement party exactly a week before the wedding ( Oct. 7th) now she just got engaged a month a go and already set the date and booked the hall for 7/3/08. She didn't even have the courage to call me to tell me she made her father call me to tell me that it was the ONLY day available for her and FH ( I mean she is getting married in 08!!!! ) and that she understands if my and FH can't make her party cause she will understand what I am going to be going through a week before. Jeez I am so mad!!! Would you ladies be mad also? or, am I just over reacting??

I would be mad too. It's not like that was the ONLY weekend she could have done it, is it?
If it's any consolation my mother just found out this past weekend that one of her cousin's kids are having their weddding the weekend before my sister's (they originally had wanted to do it the same weekend but luckily my sister had already booked before them so they couldn't) so now on top of all the last minute stuff we're going to have to do for my sister that weekend my parents have to go to a wedding that's in Connecticut!(pretty far considering we live in Queens)
needless to say she was not very happy

Honestly I think you are overreacting. It isn't as if she planned it the night before your wedding. Your wedding will be special and beautiful and you will shine that night, but the week before is open. And if that is when she can have it, so be it. It would probably be good for you to go too, get out, relax, have a good time. Even though she isn't getting married till 08, she should have her e-party now. I think it is more appropriate to have it now, rather then wait till they are engaged a year or whatever. I never understand that.

That was very spiteful of her... couldn't she wait a least a week after you get married... It just seems like she wants to take focus off you.

I don't think it's really that big of a deal. I just wouldn''t go to her party and concnetrate on your wedding.

Re: I am so mad!!!
in the past i would have said that this was no big deal
but now my cousin decided that she is having her 40th birthday the weekend before my wedding. . .sounds like no big deal right? well now i dont know what to do about the RD. . . the weekend BEFORE that is New Years and I can't have it then. . .I can have it on the Friday, I GUESS - but everyone in my family works wierd hours (like my dad only has wed and thurs off) so many people will have to choose btw my RD and her party. . . she told me she wanted to make sure i was there for it - which i guess was nice but i would MUCH rather she have it while i was away so i dont have to plan everything around it! who plans a 40th bday two years in advance?!
ok b4 i get yelled at i know i am being 100% bridezilla, i am a horrible person blah blah blah - but i am complaining to you guys and she has no idea that i am even upset. . .
anyway so the point of all this is that i can totally relate to being mad. . . BUT i guess there is nothing you can do so just work around it. . .
life doesnt stop for our weddings - but it would make it a lot easier if it would!

I would not bother stressing yourself about it....if she doesn't know it bothers you I wouldn't even tell her, because chances are if she does change her date than she might try to make you out to be a bridezilla- and since you are family, I'm sure you don't want all the drama going on.
Maybe this will make you feel better- my cousin is getting married this Saturday afternoon upstate...they booked their wedding about 14 months ago. Another cousin booked his wedding for the same day, except the reception is at night- it's also upstate, so some relatives are actually attempting to go to both. The other cousin having it at night booked their wedding about a year ago- they knew about the wedding going on in the afternoon, but didn't really care....since his bride to be is a teacher she said she HAD to have it before the school year started. This was so horrible because its the exact same family, its not like one is my dad's side & the other my mom's.
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but just pointing out a scenario that could be much worse!!
Good luck!!

I wouldnt stress ~ your getting married soon ~ I would be a little upset ~ technically they could have waited since they are getting married in 08... but just remember when you got engaged how excited you were...I am sure they are just sooo excited to spread the news! But I would just try and relax and talk to them about if it upsets you so much maybe they could change the date ~ if they know it upsets you they might just change it! ~

I would be a little annoyed but don't overthink it.
I don't think you were her main thought when booking her engagement party.

I agree. And also if she was doing it be spiteful then its going to backfire on you, because everyone will be asking you questions about the wedding.
