I AM SO MAD AT FMIL

I AM SO MAD AT FMIL

I never vent on here but this time I have to. My FMIL is not the greatest of people. She has 4 kids all of which (except FH) have moved far away from. None of them like to get involved with her. She is not a very clean person, drinks ALOT, etc. Not very motherly at all. Well, when FH bought my E-ring he showed his parents. Well right after that she went on Ebay and bought a fake ring that looks identical to mine. So she had hers before I had mine. When I got mine she said oh, look we have matching rings. That made me mad but not as mad as today. Her daughter is in town today and went to see her mother. Well the first thing she did was show her the ring, when her daughter asked where she got it, she said Zales (that is where FH got mine) and continued to have her believe that it is a real ring. I am so angry with her, everything I have or do she has to go do also. His father does the same thing with FH and I think I have taken all about I can take. Give me some advise please. Thanks girls

I don't really understand why you are mad. What she has done is childish, but I don't really see it as harmful to you in any way.

I'm sorry you are angry. I think you should try to ignore the whole situation...

I am a little confused... she bought a fake engagement ring that looks like yours? And telling people it is just a ring from herself to herself?

You said she drinks ALOT so she probably doesn't even know what she's saying or for that matter she probably doesn't even know what she's doing either! Count to ten and think 'It could be worse'

I think she is acting childish and if anything you should feel bad for her that she feels inferior to you. You could ask your FH to speak to her and ask why she is acting the way she is and explain it is hurting your feelings (rightfully so). I am sorry!

She is a bit insane if you ask me. I am sorry you are going through this. Don't let her get under your skin no matter how hard she tries. It isn't worth it. It sounds to me like she is not all up there!

Sounds like she is desperate for some attention. I would just try to ignore her. Maybe discuss it with your FH and see what his point of view is on the subject. I would guess that he knows alot more about her patterns.

Actually - it could be a lot worse - my FIL's are driving us crazy with their demands (guest lists, FMIL's dress, etc) - we've only been engaged for 3 weeks and have no plans made at all.

You're FMIL is acting strange - but its pretty harmless. Just be glad she isn't having separation anxiety about losing control... like mine is. Trust me.. it stinks!

If you are angry, it is real! No matter what someone does. Don't let someone tell you you should not be mad because 'it does not seem like a big deal.' Your feelings are valid.

I can see exactly why you are upset...she is extremely jealous and envious of you, and is trying to receive the same type of attention as you. She is, in alot of ways, 'taking' that attention from you. She is probably psychotically attached to her son too, if she feels she must be 'engaged' at the same time/

She sounds immature, dysfunctional, and a little kooky. Yes, it is upsetting (especially because she is FMIL!) but you have to be the bigger person. Ignore her when she gets like this...she is LOVING getting a reaction (even negative) out of you or anyone...that is why she did it! Don't give her any attention whatsoever, encourage others to do the same.

One way I put people and situations like this in perspective: Thank God you are sane, happy, and NOTHING like her. Breathe!!!

I think you should let it go. Her problems must run very deep and I don't think there's a lot you can do. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

Thank you so much everyone. I know it sounds like a small petty thing but the things she does just urks me and I think this was the icing on the cake. I'm sure there will much bigger dilemas with wedding planning and all, I just wish I had a more loving FMIL. I shouldn't compare but my exboyfriends mother and I were so close and inseparable. I guess I just wish it was like that with FMIL but I know it never will be. She is too out there for that type of relationship.

Flip it (the situation and FMIL) - you know when you think about it you must be an amazing person, why else would this woman want to be just like you right down to your ring....hold your head up!

I annot even imagine trying to get your ring before you, just so she could have it first.

Well, the comforting thought is that soon enough your e-ring will have a very significant 'next-door-neighbor.'

I always try to be the bigger person when it comes to my in-laws, but that is off the charts. I dunno what I would do

Remember imitation is the best form of flattery. I would be ticked too but be thankful it is not something worse. Just remember yours is real and hers is a CHEAP IMITATION!!!
