I am so mad at my church.........(long)

I am supposed to be making my confirmation next weekend and I haven’t taken any classes. I have called and called and they told me that since I am a practicing catholic that they were only going to make me take the last class. I hadn’t heard from them in a while so a 2 weeks ago I called and they said that they weren’t sure which class yet, but they would call me. This morning I realize I haven’t heard from them so I called. The woman says: where were you on Monday? I say I am not sure what you are referring to. She says you were supposed to be here for your class. I said to her that I didn’t even know. I haven’t heard anything from you since the last time I called. She said that they left me a message. I never got one or any missed calls. She told me that the number better be wrong that they were calling otherwise I can’t make my confirmation. If I can’t make my confirmation I can’t get married there. We already have our invitations. Ugghh!!!! I am soooo mad. I have been pursuing them for months about this and they wait til the last minute to call and now it’s my fault. Please pray that this all works out for me.

UPDATE:
The woman from the church called back and said that she is willing to give me a private class on Monday Eve so I can make my confirmation on the 27th. I am so thankful that she is willing to do this. I honestly don't know what I would have done if this didn't work out. Thanks girls for all of your support.

I have to say my church hasnt exactly made it easy every step of the way for us either. We had to get 'approved' by the church before we started pre-cana cuz FH is not catholic. Thank goodness it all worked out.

The woman in the office was really trying to help, but she said it is up to the priest. She said she is going to tell him that I shouldn’t be penalized if I didn’t receive the call. He is in meetings all day and now I have to wait til tomorrow to hear of his decision

Honestly if they do have the right number (and who's to say that the person won't just say it is so they don't get in trouble - remember they're not clergy) and tell you that you can't do your confirmation, speak to the head priest! Tell him, calmly, the situation and how worried you are about not being able to complete your sacraments and also get married at that church. They should be able to do a makeup class.

You're lucky it was only one class, though. My FH had to go to a class each week from November til April to be able to do his confirmation (as did I a few years ago).

omg it HAS to work out, point out to them that you called soooooo many times and you just got blown off, it's not your fault, why would you not go to the glass if they had called you? omg let us know how it goes!!!!!!

FH and I debated getting married in a catholic church since I was raised catholic, but couldn't because it was less than 6 months from the time we were engaged to the wedding! Because of this, they also wouldn't let my uncle (who is a Catholic priest) have ANY part in the ceremony. I don't understand the church sometimes.

The church is oftentimes really lax about that kind of stuff. I know FH and I had to go to classes since neither of us had confirmation and sometimes we'd be sitting there for an hour and noone would show up! We were constantly chasing after people to find out what was going on

Give them a call and see if you can talk to anybody. Hopefully it's just a mix up with the numbers and everything will work it.

Have your Uncle call your parish and have him ask to speak to the Pastor directly. Tell him to say this is Fr So and So and explain the situation. They usually ask for 6 months because they want you to be sure of what you are getting into. My friend who got married barely made 6 months.

I am soooo sorry all you girls are going through this. My Dad teaches and is in charge of RCIA in our parish and he is wonderful (not because he is my Dad but this is what others have come up to tell us). It all depends on the people in charge. In some parishes it is the priests that are in charge of RCIA in others its the lay people. Most of the time lay people are much better.
Go speak to the Pastor. His word is supposed to be final. Worse comes to worse try calling someone at the Diocese of Rockville Centre offices, tell them the situation and see if they know where else you can take the last class. Only problem is that Pentecost is next Sunday and that is when Confirmations are done.
