I went to the post office on Saturday to mail my invites and the woman behind the counter swore that she would hand cancel my invites. She was going to let me do it, but her co worker advised her that I wasn't allowed. I really did not think they'd be hand cancelled since I know a few people who were told their invites were going to be hand cancelled and never were BUT, my best friend just received our invite and it WAS hand cancelled. WOOOHOOOOOOOOOO YAY!
It's really amazing how these little things make me so happy

I live in Queens, so we went to the Fresh Meadows Post Office. It's located on the LIE service road right near the Fresh Meadows movie theater.

Hand cancelling means that the invites do not go through the machine to be processed by the Postal Service. Instead the employees have a stamp they use to process them. I've heard that some envelopes get ripped and/or get filthy going through the machine.

You're welcome. I had no idea this was done until I came on this website. I think it's a nice touch, but it doesn't NEED to be done. They'll still get to their destination even if you don't hand cancel. I think it's better to request hand cancelling if your invite is thick. I would think there's a bigger possibility of it getting ripped when it goes through the machine.
