MY DH nephew is turning 3 this week. DH father bought him a $200 photocamera because apparently 'the boy likes to take pictures'. Now my FIL asked Dh is we want to go in on that gift with him.
I said NO WAY! A $200 camera for a 3 year old?? He won't even understand what it is! Besides, it’s most likely going to be destroyed in about 2 days.
DH gets upset and says we must do it for his father, because he can't really afford it!
I AM SOOOO Pissed! I love my FIL, who has done a lot for us, but I think that buying a $200 photo camera for a 3-year-old is like buying Enciclopidea Britannica for a cat!
What do you thing about this!!! Am I being reasonable?

I don't think you are being unreasonable. A $200 camera is a ridiculous gift for a 3 yr old. Buy him a damn polariod camera if he likes to take pickures. That way he can actually see the pictures right away.

I think you have every right to be po'd! I would be also. A 3 year old, my 5 yr old nephew ruined the VCR I would never hand him my $500 digital camera. I can barely handle it my FH watches me (mostly because I am a clutz) just to make sure I don't break it.

I think your FIL should return the $200 camera and you should all go to Toys R Us and get the child an age appropriate toy!
