I am starting to feel like a failure.

I am starting to feel like a failure.

I am just feeling down. Just in case some of you don't know I am an aspiring actress. I moved to NYC about 7 yrs ago from a smallish town in TN. I have had some successes, but I am really starting to feel like an utter failure. It has been almost a year since I have worked on stage. I just don't know what to do with myself. I love acting/singing. I can honestly say that I am great at what I do, but unfortunately theatre has been invaded by moviestars. Those of us that have dedicated our lives to this pursuit can't even seem to get our foot in the door. I am 31 years old and I feel like I have nothing to show for my life.

I'm sorry, I just get so upset and frustrated sometimes.

I have a tremendous respect for you, and for all other stage actors/actresses. It is difficult, CONSUMING work, and not easy to come by.

Please hang in there - I have no doubts that someday soon, the LIW ladies will host a GTG into NYC to see HEIDLA on stage!!!

Keep trying!!!

Don't feel like that...we all have our good days & bad days but don't say you have nothing to show for it! You came from a small town in TN to NYC...that takes a lot of strength! I'm sure you'll do well and it's ok to get frustrated but snap out of it!!! Here are some

Don't give up!! From what it seems, acting is very competitive. The right job will come along soon!!

WOW! I give you so much credit- what a tough business. Its so about who you know and not how talented you are. Keep trying-you never know that break could be right around the corner

Keep the faith! Many people just dream and you have taken the steps in making your dream a reality...that is a wonderful thing and no one can take that away from you. That alone makes you a success! Just believe in yourself and all the pieces will fall into place!

I admire you for going after your dream. I wanted to do something that involved writing but I became a teacher because it was 'safe' and steady. And while I do love teaching, I wish I'd had more courage to go after something I really wanted to do. I have a lot of regret about that lately.

It must be gard to keep positive in such a business, and with the 'trend' of Hollywood film actors invading the stage, it must be even harder. That trend can't last forever, and those who have the talent and the heart will be the survivors.

On a side note, I also had a friend who came from a smallish town in TN to be an actress here. She is back in TN not acting.......in the grand scheme of things, you have gotten way farther than most Have faith and stay strong.

Heidi, don't give up! You are an actress and it goes all the way down into your blood. You can't judge your success by the shows you have been in and the parts you have played. Your success runs deeper than that. Your success in life is based on how you chose to live your life and with whom you chose to share it. You have a DH who loves and supports you. You have friends and family. You will find the perfect roles soon. Consider it like it was finding your DH. You knew there was someone out there for you, but it takes time to find him.

Don't give up hope!

Like others have said, you are a success for doing something many people never have the guts to do, following your dream and knowing it's what you want!

Chin up!!

You are not a failure, you are an extremely talented and beautiful person. Don't give up on your dream.

Heidi! Do NOT give up! I know it can be extremely difficult, but you've done a lot more than most. At any given time, they say only one out of every 2500 actors makes enough money acting to live off of. You have a supportive DH, you're making money elsewhere, just keep going for it. I can't stand the movie stars invading broadway thing thats been going on. In almost every instance it brings the quality of the production down just to sell more tickets. It's ridiculous, but there are still plenty of opportunities open to you. That's the ONE thing you need in this business - perseverence...that and thick skin. Don't lose either of them! Keep going!

I wholeheartedly agree !

Heidi, I am sure you have your moments of feeling like a failure but I think the alternative (you giving up) would make you feel so much worse in the long run.

I admire your perseverance so much, and its with that quality that you are alread a success!

Good luck always!
