I don't know what to do. I enjoy eating and living the low carb lifestyle, but I am struggling to lose any weight. Right now I would be happy losing the weight I gained since Danielle and i got married, and that would be about 15lbs.
The diet really hasnt been going to well for me. I lose a pound, and then I gain it back. I have been on the diet since a week before New years and I dont know what I should do.
I know I need to excersize more, but the weather just makes me feel so blah. I try to do Walk away the pounds when the weather is too cold, but if it is a warm day like today, I try to walk outside.
If anyone has any tips or ideas as to what I should do that will make this diet work for me that would be great....
Thanks, Scott

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Scott, have you ever tried using Fitday.com to record what you are eating and how much you are exercising?
To get net carbs, just go into the goals section and add dietary fiber...put whatever as minimum and maximum intake. This way it will record fiber and you can subtract to get net carbs.
I find this site very, very helpful...Maybe you can track why you are stalling from here...

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Yup i have used it....thanks..... I already cut out Soda and I have been drinking a lot of water....I have cut out late night snacks and I usually dont eat anything for dessert, except for a cup of decaf green tea. I have been drinking green tea because I heard it is healthy and it also helps with weight loss.
I cut down my cheese intake to 4 ounces a day.
What are some other things i should try doing? Thanks, Scott

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Try to eat whole, natural foods...nothing processed...Keep it simple.
cut down on cold cuts if you're eating them...
cut down on your sodium intake...
Make sure you are eating enough fat...and not eating too much protein. The body converts excess protein into sugar, which then can be stored as fat. I try to manage this with Fitday.
And lay off the carrots!!! Just kidding

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Butter, cream/half & half, olive oil, full fat salad dressings (Marie's are really good), sour cream...
I forgot the exact ratio, but Atkins says it should be something like 60% fat, 35% protein, 5% carbs...b/c when your eating low carb your body will be burning fat instead. Again, I go by Fitday's pie chart to see where I am at for the day.
I know I usually have to watch b/c I tend to eat more protein...

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Here is a good dessert recipe that is low carb/high fat/low protein...
Clouds
Ingredients:
1 8oz. package cream cheese 1/4 cup Splenda or 6 packets 1 stick unsalted butter 1 tsp. Pure Vanilla or other flavored extracts
In bowl soften to room temperature the butter & the cream cheese. Add the vanilla & Splenda* mix with mixer till smooth and well blended. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper. With a 1/2 tsp. measuring spoon place the dollops on the paper. Put the cookie sheet in the freezer and let them freeze. When frozen put in baggies.
Here are the stats... The average piece was about 1'x1'. The batch yielded 30 servings, so each individual serving would be:
Calories: 53.33 Total Fat: 5.33g Sat Fat: 3.73g Cholesterol: 18.67mg Sodium: 24mg Carbs: 0.267g Protein: 0.533g Vitamin A: 4%
I know, sounds gross, but tastes like cheesecake!!

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Scott, you know that exercise is the solution, so just do it! Dieting alone is SO much more difficult than diet + exercise. Also, if you continue to eat the same types of foods, and the same amount of calories, your body will eventually get used to it and your metabolism will slow down. The same goes for exercise - if you do the same type of exercise (walk) and at the same intensity, your body will get to a certain fitness level and then plateau.
If you want to lose weight easily AND keep it off, you MUST exercise in addition to watching what you eat.

Yes, I do agree you need to change it up every once in a while!

But how is this remotely good for you????? The saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium are way high for a piece that's 1 square inch! If you're hungry, that's not even going to touch the sides of your stomach!!!
Scott, perhaps you should consult your doctor and ask him/her to suggest a diet. If you're having a hard time now, there's no way you're going to be able to maintain a low-carb diet in the long-term and you will just gain the weight you lost back and probably more because you're messing with your metabolism.
I agree with Ann that exercise is the way to go. Cardio and strength training - muscle requires more energy to maintain than fat does, therefore using up more calories when you're at rest.
You're feeling lethargic because you are lethargic - it's a vicious cycle - you're too tired to exercise, but you're tired because you don't exercise. I know people are probably sick to death of me recommending Body for Life But it really is an amazing program. If you go out to buy the book, it explains the science behind everything. You'll see that it really is a healthy way of living and is sustainable beyond the 12-weeks they suggest you do it for. Also, because it's a finite program, it really helps you to set a goal to finish it and I find that to be motivational as well.
good luck.

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
Thanks for the info....I heard of body for life, but right now I am going to try to stick with this. I know that excersize is my answer...I just need someone to be on my back to stick with it.
Yesterday when I got home I did 30 minutes of Tae Bo with Billy Blanks and I felt great after that...I think today I am either going to go walk or I am going to do Walk away the pounds.
As for all the fat and protien that you eat on a low carb diet, it is strange but this is the only time I could tell you that my stomach doesnt bother me. I always have had a week stomach, but on low carb, I dont have any problems at all. Carbs are baaaaad. Scott

Re: I am struggling with Low Carb
carbs are not bad. everything in moderation. I lost about 30 pounds just by eating healthy and exercising regularly and ive kept it off. i have bread, i have fruit... i mean, can you really get fat by eating too much fruit? I don't think fad diets will ever stick, its all about will power and motivation. You can do anything you put your mind to and you can become the healthiest youve ever been by eating lean meats, fruit, dairy, and this will help your heart, body mind and soul... trust me, it works! and its a great thing! how bad do you want it is the real question!

I'm glad you found something that works for you. I've lost 40lbs on low carb and it seemed to work for me. I don't expect to cut carbs forever. After losing what I want, I introduce carbs in the form of whole wheat, no white carbs.
