If you and FH were very limited in your finances, about to get married, and you were about to move in together would you:
A) get a studio or 1 BR that is relatively inexpensive on your own, even though it may be tight
B) Get a 2 BR apartment w/ one of FH's friends who will pay 70% of the rent
Please vote...written responses welcome! Thanks!

def get one by yourself! Dont live and depend on someine else after your married. You two need that time together to grow, they say the first year is tough as it is, so you two dont need a third person involved. plus what if their a fight, etc.then you and FI are left in the cold, def dont do it :)

If it was before we got married and I really liked FH's friend and thought I could live with him... i can see getting the 2-bedroom, but after we were married, i would want my own place with DH...

I voted for A. One of my best friends just got married and lives in a 2BR apartment. ANother one of our friends needed a place to stay for awhile because he lost his job. He's now been there for two months and it has been very difficult. My friend says she doesn't feel like she's married because she has this 'roommate.'
HTH!

I really think that we can do it on our own. I have seen apartments that are reasonable and I can contribute something. Plus FH will be getting a raise in 2 months (7K) plus over time. I agree. I just want to get used to being married, be 'alone' when we want, not have to worry about fighting and having someone else hear it, not have to worry that is friend will skip out and then we are left w/ an apartment we definitely can not afford. His friend is nice, but it's a guy...which makes walking from the shower to the bedroom a pain in the a$$ (not that I would be much more comfy w/ a female). I hardly know him. Being friends w/ someone and living together are two different things...heck, I need to get used to living w/ FH! I just want our own place so we can just be newlyweds and get used to it all. I think it's doable...I really do. Now...to convince FH, he gets a bit defensive about it.

I think you should either do the small by yourselves or try to live with one of your families (if this was possible like they have a huge room with a bathroom) to save money. I guarentee yo uwill NOT like living with a roomate as a married couple!!!

I would try and cut out some unnecessary extras in order to have my own place with FH

totally agree, get your own, smaller place that you can afford, no need for a third party.

Get the apartment by yourself. Newlyweds need time to adjust to each other and time to learn each other another a roomate may interfere with this process.
