We planned on going on a cruise next week that leaves out of JFK airport to Miami, out of fear of terriorism. I was scared to go on a plane but this is just making me nuts! The plane is chartered from the cruise line, so everyone on the plane will be on the cruise, but I am still terrified. Any words of advice?( I plan on taking a pain killer before I get on becuase I just had root canal done so that will make me sleepy)We planned this trip last summer.

Ok think about it this way...
You are more likely to get into a car accident on the way to the airport, than have your plane picked as the one a terrorist would do anything to.
You are more likely to get hit by lighting, during this car accident, on the way to the airport, than have your plane picked as the one a terrorist would do anything to.
There are a few thousand terrorists out there, somewhere, right now. There are MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of peace loving people.
There are more terrorists outside this country, than there are in it.
Does that help at all? Keep repeated these odds to yourself....because it's all true. Just think logically, have a few drinks on the flight...and try not to worry!

Those are all good points. Just remember that if we all stop doing the things in life that we enjoy the terrosists have succeded. I refuse to live my life in fear of what might happen. I could be walking across the street and get run over, but I still walk outside. IMO living in fear and letting it stop you from doing the things you love is not living. Go on your trip and enjoy being together!!!! After all that is what life is about!!
Also, I went on a cruise in Feb. 02. I was more aware of what was going on around me, but we had a wonderful time.

The first time I went on a plane after 9/11 I was a hysterical mess, and I'm not the panicky type... a couple of things calmed me down: 1. I was medicated (it was that or nothing) 2. my dad told me this saying: a coward dies a thousand times, a hero dies but once... I don't want my dad calling me a coward! and 3. every day that goes by that you DON'T hear terrible news there are hundreds of flights reaching their destinations around the world...and today will be no different!
Just try to think of the fun you will have!!

Since 9/11, my fear of flying has increased greatly but I refuse to cave in to these freaks who are trying to scare us. We are americans--stronger, smarter and braver.
The only part of flying I have is takeoff....so I just try to keep myself occupied....read a book, magazine or try and fall asleep. Try not to worry about it.
