I called the post office regarding postage increase....

I just hung up with United States Postal Service and they told me it is a propsed change and that's all it is right now and if it does go into effect, it will not happen before May 2007. Also, I asked about the wedding stamps and the lady told me if the rates go up, all their stamps would be available in the new rate.

ok-- but there is still a problem-- my invites (and response cards) will be going out before May-- but the RSVP isn't until early June---- What happens if the RSVP amount I put on in April is not good for May & June-- ugh!

What a hassel!

I totally see what you're saying. Honestly, I'm not really sure. If I were you, I would callt he post office and ask them. I hope it all works out.

I beleive they usually have a grace period after rate changes...meaning they still will deliver mail with old postage amounts for a few weeks after rate changes to account for people who forget and for mail already in transit

I went outside in the snow before just specifically to buy 2 cents stamps to attach to my envelopes. They aren't that bad, they have jewelry on them but they still don't match the 39 cent stamp!

I just read an article on CNN.com that the stamp is officially going up on May 14th 2007. I was freaking out when I heard it was going up because our RSVP is May 10th. I'm still not sure if there is any grace period.

Ugh! This makes me sooooo mad!
I was also planning on mailing out my invites in early April with an RSVP date of June 1st. Now while I don't have to worry about paying extra for the invites, the RSVP cards won't all arrive before May 14th? I know plenty of people will though, but should I leave it up to the people who are mailing them out within the last two weeks to pay the extra 2 cents? What is everyone thinking they'll do about that? I'm so upset about this!

From the article I read, it said that heavier mail (like wedding invitations) will actually go down in price. - 2 ounces - 58 cents, down from 63 cents. That's because the 41-cent rate is for the first ounce, but each additional ounce will cost just 17 cents, down from the current 24 cents.

It doesn't really help the RSVP envelopes but at least it's cheaper to send the actually invitations.
