I came up with a new idea about HM, tell me what you think...

OK, I am a teacher and am getting married the weekend before Thanksgiving. I was going to take two days off before my wedding, the three days before Thanksgiving and then three days the following week. Now that I want to go to Hawaii and have some more time away, I was thinking of postponing my HM for about a month. My FH and I decided that I would still take three days off after my wedding and do a 'mini' moon to Florida or the Bahamas and then the big Honeymoon in Decemeber when I get about 12 days off.

My question is, has anyone not taken their big honeymoon right away and does this idea sound nuts!

It doesn't sound nuts whatsoever!!!

I would def do it if I were in your shoes.. it's like going on 2 honeymoons!!

Not at all, sounds good. It'll also give you something to look forward once you get back from the mini-moon...you know just about the time that you might start experiencing those post wedding blues.

Jodi ... I wanted to do the same thing, but dh was totally against it. I would have loved to get away when I would have had more time! We met several couples who had gotten married at other times & were away later on. Go for it!!!

Jodi,

It does not sound nuts. My friend got married last Octoberand she is also a teacher.

She went away for a couple of days then and now in March they took their big honeymoon to Hawaii.

so go for it

I am doing the delayed honeymoon. I got married last Friday and we stayed in the Wyndham Hotel for the weekend and we will be taking our official honeymoon in July. We are also taking a few days in May and staying at Gurney's Inn in Montauk. (thanks to LIW and ALina!!) So, I think you should definitely wait until you have more time. I couldn't take my honeymoon right away becasue I have a daughter in school and I wanted to wait until she spends the summer with her dad. I didn't want to leave her right away. I won't have any worries then...

a good friend of mine who is a teacher got married in Oct then went on their honeymoon to Hawaii over Christmas. She was glad they waited. Once the wedding was over she still had the trip to look forward too.

I'm getting married in Nov also but we aren't going on the HM till Christmas break bc FI will be in grad school at this time. I think we're doing Hawaii also!

We considered doing a mini-honeymoon - but we may do it at a bed and breakfast upstate or something.

My very good friend did the same exact thing. She is a teacher and got married on Thanksgiving Day weekend. She took a few day off and went somewhere local and then went to Aruba over the holidays.

Lots of people do this, I think it is a great idea for your situation and it gives you something to look forward to after the whole wedding hoopla is over.

I have a friend that is getting married next April and is also a teacher...she is going away for a mini honeymoon during the easter break and then they are going to go on a big honeymoon over the summer....

That is exactly what we did! We got married Dec 29 and spent three nights in Manhattan including new Years eve and then had to come back to Dallas for work. And we are going to Playa del Carmen in May for our big honeymooon. I am actually glad we did it this way...gave us something to look forward to after all the wedding craziness was over.
