I had it all planned to go to The North Ritz Club tonight since FH had off and put down the deposit and finalize everything. Well......... FH and I picked out my engagement ring awhile back and he's been paying it off, well today he went there to give them another payment and they told him that the regional manager cancelled his lay away because Christmas is coming and they want to clear out the lay away. They were going to mail him a gift card with the amount he left. OMG!!! I freaked when I saw him flipping out on the salesgirl and they explained what happened. I asked why no one called me and the manager tells me that she left a note for one of the girls to do this. So I said to her so what are you telling me I no longer have a ring? She tells FH the rings still there but it was supposed to be paid off in 3 payments. He shows her the contract and it said 5 but the girl at the time told him that it's just part of their paper work and they don't enforce it. Well she couldn't give him an answer but told him all she could do was let him have the ring now if he paid the total balance now. I asked her if he did this could he get money off so what does she do give him 10% off, What the hell is 10% today. Guess what girls There went my deposit on my hall. I will never ever go there again, not even to look. She even showed me the band that goes to my ring and was willing again to give me 10% off. I told her, now I have an engagement ring but no reception so I think I'll pass on the wedding band right now!!

That's horrible! I'm in the jewelry business and I've never heard of anything so heinous! If your contract said 5 payments- even if it was an error they have to honor it. Thank God you got it in time before they sent it back! What jerks! Would you mind FMing me which jeweler you used?

OMG, I can't even imagine how furious you must have been...I would report them to the Better Business Bureau....IF you have it in writing that he had 5 payment or 5 months, they must honor that...

OMG How horrible! Were you able to call NRC and have them hold the date for a while longer? I can't even imagine how upset you are...nor do I blmae you!

Now that I've calmed down kinda. We went to Zales in Massepequa. I would've liked to slapped the regional manager who deceided that all of the sudden they would enforce the layaway. I stood there when the original salesgirl told FH don't worry about the payment schedule. You can take as much time as you want to pay it off, we just put a schedule on there as a guideline but it's never enforced. Then not to call and say well maybe whoever called couldn't reach you--Okay well then don't you call back!! I was doing so much running around today because both babies are sick I haven't gotten a chance to call the NRC but I'll call in the morning and see what they can do! Thanks soooooooo much for the hugs though. I needed them.

That's wrong...they should at least honor the 5 payments that is on the contract.

I cannot believe that happened to you. Write the BBB, cc Zales and send a copy of the contract and the receipt showing it was paid in full on the date they made you pay for it.

Here's the thing the 5 months was just up but the first girl said they don't enforce it, the payment schedule is just a guideline. The girl yesterday said she doesn't even know how the first girl gave up 5 months because the Zales policy is 3 months only and she(the first girl)was dead wrong about 5 months but she was correct in that they don't enforce the payment schedule usually. FH was just there like 2 weeks ago to make a payment why didn't they say something to him then? Why didn't they call until they reached someone? As far as Im concerned it was just a way for them to scam us into buying the ring in the first place. Not that Im telling but as all you girls know those rings are not cheap. FH asked due to the price of the ring it may take longer to pay it off and that's when the girl told him it didn't matter they don't enforce it anyway.
