i cant believe this

long story as short as possible. my great uncle is a priest. me and FH are protestant. (i was brought up both, parents were divorced) i felt bad not having my uncle marry us but it would be a lie to get married catholic when we arent and dont plan on raising our kids catholic. so i asked the pastor of the church we are getting married at can my uncle be involved with the ceremony, he said of course. i just talked to my uncle and because of the religion he says he cant even come as a guest (cause i was baptised catholic) what is that about?!?!? my dads gonna be pissed!! why wouldnt he be able to just come and be a guest at least? this is not cool. sorry about my rant!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that! I can't understand why he couldn't even be a guest.

ug, that's awful. It pisses me off so much when people do things like that, and miss out on amazing events in the lives of their loved ones because of their own pigheadedness.

Good luck. I hope he comes to his senses soon.

umm...he needs to explain to you why he can't come as a guest. personally i think it's HIS issue, not a church rule. a priest can come to someone's wedding....now if HE personally doesn't want to. that's something else. he shouldn't try and say it's the church, when i think it's more his moral/personal choice.

A Catholic Priest can definetely partake in a ceremony at another church..they told us that at Pre Cana as there were a few couples in that situation....

However I think he is just rude. He should be happy that you have found the love of your life and are to be married!! If he doesn't want to attend that is truly his loss

Without going into details, I think it is indeed the church. It has to do with a Catholic marrying outside of the Catholic church.

I think that is if there has been permission granted to marry in another church. If one person is catholic and the other isn't there are times in which the catholic can get a dispensation from the bishop to marry in the other church and the catholic priest can partakein the cermony.

I definately think it's his deal that he's not coming. I'm sorry that he is acting like this.
