I think one could have their wedding anywhere, and it would be elegant. Depends on how the couple carries themselves.
I've know brides who get married, get their 'elegant' ring and pay tons to buy an 'elegant' wedding - and they still act trashy and rude.
You don't buy elegance - no matter where you wedding is, who designed your dress, or who snaps you pics. Its sad that ANYONE would fool themselves into thinking that.

I went to visit a photographer - considered well know and upscale - this afternoon. FM if you want the name. I asked to see proofs from a recent wedding to get a feel for his work outside of a completed book. He brought them in and said 'well this is from a wedding that was a lot more elegant than your will ever be.' I just looked at him, and said, I am wearing a monique lhullier dress, my mom's gown is custom made, Stephan's is my florist, and I am having an orchestra for music, and the fact that we are going to the four seasons for our honeymoon. I said so the fact that my wedding only has 300 instead of 800 people (not a typo) is no reason to say that it is less elegant than this one. I came to you for your services. He apologized - but it got better - he was like 'oh I did not realize that your wedding was going to be so nice. After all it is only in a temple.' Grrrr. The place where we are getting married has special meaning to me b/c it is where my parent's got married 30 years ago. We also really wanted to marry in a temple. It was extremely important to us.
I should have said it is obvious that since my wedding is not at the St. Regis or the Waldorf and my name is not Rockefeller that I obviously cannot have an elegant wedding worthy of your caliber. I was so upset.
What a jerk. Just because he can fetch exhorbitant fees for his services does not give him the right to insult anyone.
It just proves the old adage - 'You can't buy class.'

He didn't even deserve your response-you don't need to explain your wedding and your wedding choices to him! What nerve!

Thanks. I called DF right afterwards and he said the same thing. I need to find a photographer whose work I like. Not sure if I am 100% on this b/c the same photographer that I met with today said it to me, but he said that JoVan is in bankruptcy proceedings. So if anyone loves their photographer please recommend. thanks again for your thoughts. L
If you can afford her, I 100% recommend Christine at Spelman Studios. She is a vendor on here (in fact most of the must take shots on that thread on here are hers!!). She is my photographer and absolutely fabulous. Check her out. FM me for more info.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Same thing happened to me a while ago with a ceremony music vendor. They assumed I couldn't pay for their services and actually recommended some of their competition because it would be 'more in my range'.
FM me the vendor info. I wonder if I know them.

How terrible......I am getting married at a Temple. I mentioned to my photographer that the Temple has certain rules regarding when photos can be taken and in which parts of the chapel. He just said, 'If the Temple has requirements, I follow their requirements and I don't argue with them but I'll explain to you what photos I can get within the requirements.' I liked his answer and I'm convinced that if you are having a Temple wedding, you should make sure that the photog. will respect the place.

When will vendors realize that the price tag does not equal elegance, it is the people. Weddings are more than dollar signs. He was completely out of line.
Good for you for not booking him even if he does good work.
Does that mean he's not going to give your job his all because you're not having as many people on your guest list? What a jerk He's obviously not even worth your time interviewing him.
