I didn't end up going to sleep...I have a quick opinion question...
Do you think it's too early for me to start buying stuff (i.e. bridesmaid/groomsmen gifts, favors, seating card holders, random doo-dads and accessories for the reception, etc.) so it doesn't seem like I'm shelling out a fortune all at once. I have approximately 1 yr and 3 months left, so I figured if I worked on one little portion at a time it would be a little easier on me and FH? What do you guys think? Should I wait a little longer to start buying that kind of stuff?
Ok now I'm really going to sleep

LOL...you're too funny...I too tried to go to sleep too and now I'm back on the couch with my laptop cause I'm thinking about wedding stuff...
That is a good question...I want to buy my placecard holders and things as I find them...I've been wondering...Is it too soon?

if you buy things little by little it will make you budget seems less and that you actually arent spending that much in reality
ive been buying stuff here and there so i dont have to drop a huge amaount all at once..we are going to buy 1 BM and 1 GM gift every month so it doesnt seem so bad and ive bought little things like cake toppers..knife set..and stuff like that

I say absolutely not early considering I've bought practically everything so far. Unity candles, bubbles, ring bearer pillow, flowergirl baskets, guestbook pen, caketopper, crystals, i do letters, cardbox, favor bags, toasting glasses, serving set.
I've been shopping online so whenever I see anything on Ebay or wedding sites I like for a great price, I buy it. It does make the budget seem a lot smaller specially if your only spending a little bit here and then as opposed to waiting last minute and spending hundreds at a time.

Definatley start buying, it will make it less of a 'burden' in your wallet later.

I agree, when you see something you like get it...I saw necklaces I loved at TJ Maxx jewelry counter for my girls and didn't get them thinking they'd still be there...Collecting things is a good idea is reduces your 'to do' lists later on....

I would try to wait for stuff you might change your mind on. I have a tendency to get inspired at the oddest moments and then change my mind on things - that being said like my invitations.
Little stuff deff. go buy. I have purchased my unity candles (personalized), candle holders, etc. I might not get a place card holder unless your dead sure thats the one and its cheap enough. Things do get disconntinued and hard to find so if you love it get it. The problem is by doing little at a time I realized I was spending more because it was spread out. So deff. do the budget thing.

As long as you have a definate idea on what you want I would start buying little things here and there. Thats what I plan on doing. But things that really dont matter much if you change your mind later like matchbooks and stuff

i don't think it's too early at all...i think it's actually a good idea so that it won't seem like everything is costing so much!! i'm doing the same thing.

yeah i agree, i think it is a good idea to get things early if you can, but make sure you know what it is you want. personally i might wait on bridal party gifts unless u know exactly what u want, b/c you may run into better things or new ideas as time passes (that always happens to me). things like place card holders, and bubbles, etc.....i would get if you already know.

Yea that's what I was worried about. I have a tendency to change my mind about a gazillion times before I actually make a 'final' decision.

I also have 1 year 3 months and I think it's not too early at all. That way u don't really feel the expenses.

Hey 08ers...dropping in..
I will have had a 2 year engagement once I FINALLY tie the knot...there are 2 sides to this problem that I myself have been dealing with.
Yes, buying early can help you to spread out your expenses so you dont feel broke all at once, but also, if you buy early something different could come along and you could end up spending more because you 'want to get that too'.
For me, I waited until my year mark to start anything other than my vendors. I got my dress in January and I just started the BM dress process. As far as gifts, I just bought bags and boxes for the gifts I plan on buying.
I also recently purchased cry packs and an embroidered bo-k ribbon- still buying a little at a time.
Good luck!

i dont think its too early melissa, you are only 4 months after me and i think its definitely better to buy a little at a time - but still keep track of how much you are spending
