Okay, so I dont understand how place cards work exactly.
If everyone scrambles at the last minutes to get the place cards and seating organized, how do they get the names onto the place cards in time for the wedding?
Aren't most placecards done with calligraphy?
Do they put the names on all of them and add the number later?
Who adds the number?
Am I being crazy about this? Sorry! Just dont know the answer

Re: I dont get it.... Seating question
is your RH doing it? Maybe you give them a list with all of your guests and table number when you give them your final head count?

you can buy the placecards from staples or michaels. They should have a template for your computer if you wanted to print them. I would just start a file with names, then when ur ready to assign tables, plug that in and print. (easier said than done probably)

if you get them done by a professional calligrapher, you give that person a list with the name of the guest and the table he/she/they are to sit at...usually calligraphers have a fast turn around time

I don't think there is a single RH that will put the names on the placecards for you. If you are expecting them to do this, you are in for a big surprise!
I have attended weddings where they didn't have individual placecards, the MD had a book with a printout of the seating and guests had to go up to the MD to ask where they were seated.
The RH may provide the BLANK cards for you to fill in, but those cards will have their logo on them. It is up to you (the couple) to get the cards filled in.
Some people pay a calligrapher or their invitation place to do this for them, others hand-write them or print them out themselves using the computer.

If you're doing them yourself and you foresee lots of last minute changes to the list and the tables the best way to do it is the whole 'write the name on the envelope with table number inside on a card'. This way you can prewrite all names of guest on the mini envlopes and put a little note card inside with just the number and store them away. This way if you move people around your not trashing whole placecards, just the inner sheets.
It easy too because you can just send the envelopes off to the caligrapher with your entire guest list and write/redo the number cards yourself a week or two before. Honestly no ones handwritting is that horrible when writting numbers....
