We arent getting marrie din church and we cant use the Milleridge so....whats the point right? I mean, i know its also a formality but i feel like its a waste to ask his parents to pay for something we really dont need.
thoughts?

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
Lots of couples don't have an RD bc of that reason, it's nice but it isn't really necessary. I'm only having one bc we've got kids in the BP and I want them to be more comfortable on the big day. And even at that, we're just having a small dinner back at my mom's house, nothing extravagant.

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
So funny b/c we were talking about the same thing last night. We decided that we're probably just going to have the officiant come to my mom's house so we can do a run through in the backyard or something. Then to save $$, just have the guys BBQ and order in some hot food or subs.
We're not 100% sure yet, but I'm actually excited that we're maybe going to do it this way since the wedding is formal, we'll do a casual RD.

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
I happen to enjoy rehearsal dinners. I think its a great time for your bridal party to bond & it's such a relaxing atmosphere. Also, it's a great time to give out your BP gifts and do little things like tell everyone their order in walking down (etc).
If money is an issue, you are getting married in July, maybe a fun informal BBQ would be fun!?!
BUT, you are correct, it is not something you NEED to do. Either way you'll be fine.

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
Well, I'm getting married at my hall and they don't do rehearsals. They just do a mini rehearsal day of, so we're not having a dinner either. What's the point when there is no rehearsal.

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
My older sister was married at the swan club in '03 and still had a rehearsal dinner even though they couldn't have a rehearsal at the hall. FH and I were debating to have a RD even though we are getting married in a church. We are trying to save some money for the wedding. Its still up in the air if we are going to do it. I am hoping is parents might be able to help in that part.

At this point, i dont think we are doing a rehearsal dinner, we are getting married at fox hollow and my bridal party is very small. May just do a dinner for some close family, but nothing big

Michele, I really don't think its necessary from what you said. No need to spend extra $$$ if no real rehearsal, esp. if you can't do at your ceremony site.

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
I might get beat up for this BUT.... I think you really should have a RD, yeah, it's not nessasary, but there are lots of reasons (I think) you should have one. I think it's a very nice intimate way for the entire BP to get to know eachother. I think It's a 'thank you' dinner to everyone who helped with your wedding. As a former BM, I know planning (and payng for) a shower is super stressful, and it's a very nice gesture. It's where you can get very personal w/ all the people who have put their blood, sweat, and tears into YOUR day. I think having a backyard BBQ is fine, but I really think you should do something. I mean, if you look around, you can find a place that's not to bad. I found a place that was $16.99 p/p. We are not inviting BP w/ guest, so it's under $400! I mean, at this point $400 is a drop in the hat. Fortunatly, FMIL is picking it up for us. Even if you host something at your house, thats fine. I just think sometimes people get resentful when you don't have on.... JMHO....

I agree. I think it is a way to thank the bp for all of their generosity - and a way to spend time with them before the chaos of the big day. Something informal would be wonderful, and not too expensive.

We're having our rehearsal in church but the dinner is definitely at the house (catered and BBQ)...we'll save appx $2K in our pocket!

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
I think you should have something small. When my sister got married, she had it at her MIL house, and they made most of the food. It was really nice, and you got to meet the BP, which I didn't really know. Your BP is dishing out alot of money for your wedding, so it is just a nice way to say Thank You. I agree with the above posters, have a nice BBQ, or you could do a Brunch.

Re: I dont think we are doing a Rehearsal Dinner
I've been in seven weddings and none of them ever had a RD. I don't plan on it, either.
