I come from an old school Italian family. When I was growing up I couldn't leave the dinner table unless everything on my dish was gone. I put on weight since I graduated college and have lost 37lbs. since 2005. When I as 'fat' my dad use to tell me Anna you are getting fat. Now that I am thinner than before college my dad tells me that I look like a skeleton. ***?? It's like before you used to say I was fat now that I lost the weight I'm too skinny??!!! I just don't understand!!!
Can anyone relate to this???

dont worry! if your healthy dont listen to what they say they are just used to seeing you one way!

thats what dads always say!!!! in my FHs family when i first met them they told me i looked sick.. and i must not eat... but i said i only eat when im hungry... and they said 'ohh thats must be it... you dont have to be hungry to eat' some people just have different ideas of ideal weight.. have you ever said but dad i like being this weight im more comfortable with myself??...sometimes they are so used to seeing you with 'a round face' that when it slims down they just arent used to it ya know

i know what you mean, my weight fluctuates too based on how much time i have to exercise and what food i can afford that week, lol. i think its very innapropriate when people comment about weight unsolicited, especially in a bad way. if you talk to someone about how you are working out and they comment that you look good and lost weight thats fine but when people comment out of the blue i find that to be rude. a few times people have said that to me during times when i really wasnt dieting or anything and i thought, 'what, was i fat before? i didnt realize it.'
I dont think your father realizes how sensitive weight can be to a woman, i would just ignore him, or make fun of his potebelly/skinny behind, whatever, and make a joke of it.

Same exact thing happened to me starting back in high school. My dad has always been really critical of my size. First I was 'too fat' then I lost 60 lbs and got 'too skinny' (which I admit was true) then I got 'too fat' again (according to my dad). Still feel like I can't win no matter what. I just don't care anymore what anybody thinks but myself. So I can relate to what you're talking about.

Yeah...my mom always say something to defend me! I tell him he needs to slim down so we can look good for the father/daughter dance!!
