I don't want anymore opinions... (VENT)

unless they're supportive one's!!! I'm just so tired of hearing what other people think about us having a baby, etc. I've been hearing some negative thoughts about what a couple of people first thought when they found out about us having a baby. Also, my mom has been giving us her opinion of course. She saw that we registered for a sterilizer for the bottles. Well, she said that WE'RE CRAZY!!! You don't use regular bottles, you use the disposable one's. She never used them with us! Well, guess what... we've never done this before, and we're trying a few different kinds of bottles. Maybe those wouldn't work, but it's for us to find out! She just keeps throwing in her opinion about things. I know it doesn't matter, but it S*CKS! Maybe we won't even use it, but at least we'll have it just in case. This is just the tip of everything, but I'm tired of hearing it. It's also not helping when my in-laws are not getting along either. We just can't win!!!

All I can say is get use to it. People will continue to offer their opinions on everything. And as I'm sure you have already read on this board, many times the opinions aren't asked for or even 'expert' opinions.

BUT....you will get better at being able to let less of it bother you. And despite yourself, some of it you may find helpful. Bottom line is you are the Mommy so you will ulitmately do the things for your child they way you want to.

Hang in there It can definitely drive you crazy if you let it.

I hear you ....sorry about this.. why are people expressing opinions /surprise? about having a baby? I must of missed this post...

as far as mom, tell her as this is the FIRST time you will be a mom, you appreciate HER SUPPORT...you may not realize mom that some of the words you are using are hurtful...like I am CRAZY.

I meant that alot of the other pregnant ladies on this board have gone through the same thing - getting unsolicited opinions from family, friends and even strangers

Just like in wedding planning everyone wants to give you their 2 cents and you did not even ask. Smile and nod and move on, you know what you and your hubby already plan to do, so let them waste their breath. As Jenny would say, take their hand and pat it and say thank you for that unsolicited advice, but hubby and I will be doing what we want any way. Next. j/k I guess like with the wedding you have to just take it all in stride and don't let it get to you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a Mom Melissa. (just so you know your mom means that she used Playtex bottles with the liners). You can tell your mother that you have been doing some research and speaking to other mothers and you have decided to try XX type bottles first.

You are going to need to learn what I must also learn. I did it very well during the weddingt but am still trying to do it during my pregnancy.
It worked during the wedding sometimes so I am hoping it will work now too. Basically it works like this people tell you what they think is your best course of action and you say 'Oh, thanks. DH and I will discuss that' or you can also use my famous 'We are not really sure yet' (that one works GREAT for baby name questions). You can also say 'DH and I have decided that we would like to do it this way but thanks for the input'. It's simple. Try it with a friend to get really good at it before using it on Mom Alsos, remember if YOU ask a question, share information or ask for an opinion you WILL get one so that is your fault. I have yet to learn this lesson but am trying very hard. In fact, you know the minute that you say the certain thing that you shouldn't have but I am trying to learn to NOT say it in the first place.

You will have more opinions than you know what to do with once the baby is born. I know that and am trying to prepare new and fun answers to those opinions. But just know that these people love you and do want you to be happy.

it doesn't end at birth....my MIL has been complaining to her sister about how she is raising her teenage daughter...

I finally made DH tell his mom to leave her sister alone...its her daughter...

everyone will always have an opinion...
