My sister and brother in law have 2 boys, 9&6. I think they are the spawn of *****, and I really do not want them at my wedding. They do not behave, always need constant attention and are just plain annoying. My sister is just exhausted from dealing with them and her hubby does nothing. He lets them act like idiots and he sits there and says nothing. Is anyone else leaving their nieces and nephews off the guest list? My fh's nieces and nephews are all 12+ and well behaved, so I feel bad leaving them off the list, especially since his 13 yr old niece is so excited for it. How horrible of a person am I if I send the invite to my sister and BIL only? Anyone have a tactful way to approach this? My sister is very sensitive and makes comments about how I never visit them or invite them over so I'm not sure how she'll take it....

I think either you have to make it no kids at all or set an age limit to the kids you are inviting and explain that to your sister if that's the route you go.

This. Basically all or nothing, especially when its family. FH and I decided no children are allowed under the age of 16. That cuts out all but 3 kids ... one of which is IN the wedding as a jr bridesmaid... one is my cousin... one is our officiants daughter.
You can't have your nieces there.. and then turn around and tell your sister her sons aren't welcome.

We chose to invite only the children in the bridal party and only kids over 15 (so not really kids haha). It can be tricky, one of my flower girls is my cousin's daughter, my cousin has 4 kids total but I spoke with her and she completely understood about inviting only the kids in the bridal party and told me she agreed 100% that only her 1 daughter would be attending. I think it's just important to decide who you want to attend and stick to it!

From what you've said, that your sister is exhausted from them, she might welcome a night without them. My daughter, who was 6 at the time, was invited to a wedding we were invited to, but I chose not to bring her because I wanted to have a good time and not be in mom-mode. I would definitely talk to her about it though, since she's your sister.

They might want a night without the kids actually, maybe they will enjoy having a sitter and enjoying the night. I'm sure it doesn't happen often. Talk to her about it, instead of just sending the invite.

We are not having children at our wedding however FH nephew will be our ring bearer. He will be 3 at the time and she has a babysitter for after his performance = )You are not horrible at all. It is your wedding and you do not want to have children running around causing havoc. I would have a talk with her and mentioned you were thinking of having an age cut off and thought it would be nice for them to have an adult night without the children. At least this way you are giving her more than enough time to find a babysitter. Keep us posted.

You're right about them needing a night without kids....my BIL hasn't taken her out since 1996.

We are only having the bridal party children attend our wedding, other than that it is adults only. People will have time to find a sitter, its not like an impromptu party.

I wanted no kids at my wedding but I lost the battle between Fh and his family on inviting his nephews 9 and 17. The younger one might cling to his sister and dad or both be bored out of their minds. My nephew turned 2 in March and he is not invited and my sister is totally fine with it he is too little and a very very active toddler. Try talking to your sister end of the day it's your wedding.
