(kinda long sorry) Next year money is going to be tight. I plan on going for my doctorate and have been stressing CONSTANTLY about money :O/ who hasn't?
Anyways, the other night I was stressing to my parents, and today they offered to give us a large some of money to help us out with the down payment for a condo, aside from all the other stuff they promised (paying for the church, flowers at the church, my dress, and the bridal shower).
I feel sooo guilty because I know they don't have this money and they must be taking a loan to do this...I don't know what to do. :O/ I'm so upset, I don't think we should take this money!
and to top it all off, his family was going to give us 3000 because they figured it would be about equivalent to what they were helping us out with, and if they don't offer to give us more money then i definitely won't take it because i'll feel even more guilty because i know my parents and they'll be like, well how come they're not helping you out?!
UGH. All I ever wished for was more money, but I feel like it's being given out of pity and that they'll have to struggle to give it to me and they've already given me so much all through my life!!
i'm the worst daughter ever :O((((((

Your parents don;t think you're the wordst daighter ever..they're helping you out and that's awesome. You have to decide how much help you're willing to take from them. One side is always going to help you more...always...if your parents are really giving from the heart to help you, then they'll get over it if FH's parents don't give you anything

I'm sure your parents know you weren't wishing for more money from them. I'm sure your parents just want the best for you and they want you to reach your goals.
And maybe this was not money from a loan. Perhaps they did have it stashed away just for things like this.
I wouldn't stress out over it. You're very lucky!

you have to do what your comfortable with. if you think that the loan is going to lesser the quality of living for your parents then dont take it. but if you feel that there offering because they can they maybe except it with an agreement that it is a loan and taht after you get your doctorate and are through with school you will pay them back a certain amount each month.

i personally wouldn't take out a loan to finance a wedding and understand your guilt. there is a fine line between being 'financially responsible' and not wanting to hurt other people's feelings in their attempt to share the best way they know how.
think of it this way: will your doctorate enable future earning potential? you are 'investing' in yourself, correct? maybe create a plan to repay some of this money back to your parents. right now you are in need and they are sharing, in the future when they are in need, you will be sharing...

Don't think your the worst daughter. Your parents sound like my mom, they will do anything to make their children happy and have a good start in life. My mother doesn't have much, raised us on her own, while going back to college to get a bachelors and masters. We were not spoiled at all, we got by and had a lot of love. Well, my mom still isn't well off, but she works damn hard to make her money and she refused to let me pay for my wedding. For my graduation, she bought me beautiful diamond earrings, which I know she could not afford. When I yelled at her she told me a story, she said she was talking to a co-worker about a trip the worker was going to be taking with her whole family, children, siblings and her father. She said her father paid for the family to go on that trip every year. The woman said, she wished her father had kept his money that he worked so hard for and bought some nice stuff for himself. She then went on to say that her father did this trip every year to spend time with his family, his reasoning for paying, usually when parents die their children inherit whatever money they had, but this man didn't want to wait til he died for his children to enjoy his money. He wanted to be alive and be able to see them enjoying his money. So my mom now took that story to heart. She wants to see her money and the things she can buy, making us happy today, while she is here to enjoy it!! I hope this makes sense. Your parents are doing things because they love you, and they want to make sure you are always happy. You are not a rotten daughter for taking it, they want you to have it and be happy. Sometimes parents tend to want their kids to have a better start in life than they did. They know how difficult the world is today!!
