I feel stupid

I spoke to a woman in the rectory yesterday about coming in to speak about a date in late 07 or early 08 because everyone keeps telling me to speak with the church first and she practically laughed at me ... she said' Why arent you sure and 2008 is much to far away to worry about now' She didn't even make an appointment for me and t6old me to call back when I made up my mind

Mary, I am sort of in your shoes. I would speak to the church anyway. What I have been told though, is get your date for from the hall and then go to the church. It's easier (they tell me)
Good luch and Congrats!!

Don't feel bad I know a lot of girls including myself who got that same reaction from the church. What I ended up doing was booking my hall (with a clause stating that it wasn't final until I confirmed with the church and my BM gave me like a week to do that) and then I called the church and MADE them write me down in the back of their 07 book cause they 08 book wasn't even out yet. They didn't want me to come in though until '07. So what I do now is I'm making sure the pastor is very aware of who I am! (It helps when you're family is friends of a good friend of the pastor).

Basically book the hall, make sure the church writes your date down somewhere and then just keep checking in periodically with the church to make sure they don't lose your date!

In my opinion, I WOULD NOT, NOT, NOT, NOT book the hall first. if this is the church that is special to you, you grew up there, etc. etc. and that's where you really want to get married, book the church FIRST! if you book your hall first, the church may have other events or weddings planned on that date. you can always pick a different hall, you can pick a church that may be special to you. if you don't care what church you want to get married in, then book your hall first, but be mindful that many churches will not marry you unless you are a parishoner.

what i would do is call the rectory... the secretaries usually do not book weddings. say you need to speak with a priest or deacon regarding a wedding. make an appointment with the priest... he will have the calendar available and will tell you what's available. they can book in advance... and actually, if it's a catholic church most require that you book at least 9 months in advance to ensure that you are not 'rushing' into your marriage. i booked in December '05 for a February '07 weddings and he already had another wedding booked on my day!

good luck and FM if you have anyquestions.

Hey girls, I'm invading your 08 boards, since I am only 2 days away from being an 08er!! Try not to get upset with people who tell you that you have all of this time. You are planning YOUR wedding and when you want to book things, then they should be just as excited!! When I booked my church in November 2005, my priest had to write it in the back of the 06 book, but he was still nice about the whole thing. On Long Island you have to plan ahead to get the date and other things you want. I'm so sorry that woman was rude to you, just stand your ground!!!
