I filed my 2008 taxes already. . .

. . .and my refund, which I really need to help pay off a credit card in preparation for the wedding, is CRAP. 1700 federal, 190 state. . .what the hell is this?!?!?!?!?!?!?

When will Obama's tax cut happen? Because I would really like an additional 1100 right about now.

Did you go through one of those tax places like H&R Block etc..all they do is put your info into a computer and press enter! They don't go line by line to get you the most $ possible......I got HOSED one year! the very next year I went with an actual private accountant and he got me back tipple the money literally! and that was without any substantial changes to my status throughout the year!

On the bright side every dime helps right?

I went through 1040now.com. . .I should have gone to an accountant!!!! But online is easier. . .I don't know. I hope I filled it out correctly now. . .tax forms intimidate me, and this was the first year that I filed without my dad's help. I didn't even ask FH to help me!!!!!!

You are brave !!!! I would never attempt to do my own taxes. I consider myself pretty smart but that is beyond my scope. I think back to college when I had to fill out those financial aid forms (FAFSA i think) ..man I cringe at the thought!

I was the FAFSA queen in college (read: I filed FAFSAs for all of my siblings and a good number of my friends. . .good thing that I can't remember Social Security numbers other than my own!!!!), so I thought that filing my taxes would be easy!!! There were some really intimidating parts that I knew I didn't have to fill out, but the way that the instructions read made me think that I made a mistake in leaving them blank. I mean, I don't own a fishing boat or own a small business. . .right?

You got more then me.. LOL. I used tax slayer b/c I literally only had a W2 from one job...and nothing else. Next year we'll be getting SO much more... but at least the amount I am getting will pay off my HM. lol.

. . .if we're able to buy a house in December 2009, we will get SO MUCH BACK in 2010 for 2009. . .but that's all dependent on whether or not FH either keeps his job or finds another one if his job is cut as they're planning to do.

Still, I've been so used to getting $3000 combined state and federal in returns--I guess this is what happens when you move up the salary scale. . .BOO!!!

Maybe my bank just s/ucks, but I haven't gotten my interest statement yet, so I can't file...otherwise I'm the one that fills it out the same day I get it.

Im SO jealous. I just got my 2nd W2 yesterday!! The govt owes me like $7500 so im definitely not messin around this year, but the accountant can cost up to $800 so i can understand just wanting to get it overwith and get the money in your pocket.

I used to work with the family accountant on my taxes, but that got to be too expensive a couple of years ago, especially since I essentially take the same deductions every year for the past two or three. Once I finished my masters in December 2004, it became a lot less complicated. However, that doesn't make it any LESS confusing to me. I mean, what the hell is a Keogh? And seriously, owning a fishing boat is 'miscellaneous income'? (I'm not sure why I'm hung up on the fishing boat thing when I don't even own a boat yet alone one that catches fish--I think it's HYSTERICAL that they ask you multiple questions about that on a tax return!)

I'm a relatively intelligent, well-educated 29 year old woman. . .yes, I have my blond moments (as we all do), but why do tax forms look like they could have been written in hieroglyphics???? I hope that I didn't screw myself over here. . .

I think you will be okay, most people do it themselves i think. I was forced to take tax law last semester, and after having to read the whole d a m n thing, im convinced we hire monkeys to write it.... hense, rediculous tax forms trying to figure out what it says

Wow thats a Little!!! I will be yanking my hairs out if I received that little...

I'm expecting more than last year.. I bought another house last year and trust me I paid interest and taxes.. Hopefully I get most of it back.. I'm filing mines tomorrow.. i'll let you know how it turns out..

I'll be doing FHs taxes this weekend. I need to get this money back FAST!! I still need to wait to receive my W2, though I was able to figure out what the details should be anyway. Damn the goverment for taking so much of our hard earned money!

$5?!?!?!?!? Seriously, the state tax worker who is processing your form probably makes more than that for the 20 minutes he or she spends on it!!!
