I finally ordered my dress! Now I need help with veil

Original post by cutsabutton

Thanks, everyone!
Now my problem is finding a veil that matches the gown without going broke! I just got back from Macy's. I was trying on veils and tiaras...there was this plain, simple cathedral veil that I liked and when I asked how much it was, my jaw dropped! How can such a simple veil possibly cost over 350dollars!?!? There were no crystals on it nor was it made of gold. I called a friend to complain and she told me to check out e-bay. I found one I liked on e-bay, very cheap too, but I've never purchased anything from them before. Is it safe? I'm afraid I won't like it...any thoughts?

The dress is beautiful!

I almost drop over when the designer of my dress told me how much the manitilla (I think that's what it's called) and veil would cost (if I bought the one I was wearing...I put it on just for the effect to see how the dress would look with a veil)

$7,000! The manitilla had lace on the edges, and the veil (3 tiered) had Swarovski crystals.

For $7,000 you'd think they were diamonds!

Yes, I almost passed out! Needless to say, I didn't buy my veil that day, only the dress.

I still have to buy a veil.

Kathy, I think I know the mantilla you're talking about...I saw it in an issue of Bride's magazine. I couldn't believe it either! But it was beautiful!

You have a beautiful dress. As for the veil /tiara if you go with e-bay if you don't like it you can always return it or resell it.

I have that dress too! I am actually wearing my FSIL's veil that was VERY VERY Expensive. It's a little longer than a chapel length and has lace all around the edges. If I wasn't using hers I would go into the garment district in NYC and try to find someone there to make it.

I love that dress! I know a few girls on here have the same one. I would suggest a simple veil since the dress has a lot of lace. No edging or beading on the veil. Cathedral would be pretty. How do you think you'll wear your hair?

Merf, how thin was the lace on your veil? It's hard to find a veil with an all lace gown...I want a cathedral veil but I don't want to overdo it. Are you planning to wear a tiara? What are you doing with your hair?

e bay is pretty safe. Just make sure you read all the fine print. You can also check out Veilshop.com
Beautiful dress!
Good luck with the veil.

Re: I finally ordered my dress! Now I need help with veil

I wanted to wear my hair up for the wedding... problem is I have really long hair and I don't really wear it up. I don't want to feel weird on my wedding day...esp since the back of the dress is pretty low, I don't want to feel naked.

When I have my trial with Jen of Fairytale Makeovers, I guess we can experiment a bit

The lace is very thin. I am wearing a tiara and I think my hair partially up. I tried the dress on with the veil and it doesn;t look like too much but then again theres not alot of lace on the veil. Where did you get the dress?

I got the dress from Bridal Reflections in Massapequa...I want to look around for veils and tiaras before I go there for my first fitting.
