I fired my Maitre'd (a little long)
That's right, he had to go. I just couldn't take it...I had already gotten that 'gut feeling' that I wasn't going to enjoy working with him after our first phone call, but as per the pleadings of the OWNER of the hall, I agreed to at least meet the guy for our menu finalization...well, I wasn't exactly thrilled with him then, but I figured that was in part due to my previous dislike for him so I let it slide. Well, I am supposed to have e-mail ONLY contact with him from now on....so when I left the menu finalization, he had a list of things to look into for me...after a week, he never got back to me with answers...I didn't care if the answers were no or yes, I just wanted the answers.
So I decide to email him since the day I met him I was a little out of sorts as that was the day I learned of my mom's stroke (she's doing MUCH better now btw) and realized that I needed to find out about low salt/low fat options for her and FH's grandmother (as they are BOTH on very restrictive diets) and I needed a new contract as the one I had was incorrect and FFIL would not be happy....he didn't respond right away, but I didn't worry...then I had another question and it had been 2 days at this point, so I sent him a second email where I asked the new question and cut & pasted the old one in as well and reminded him that I was still waiting for an answer to those questions......
The response he sent me upset me....'I would like to mention we are in our busy season and all correspondence is answered accordingly and a timely fashion. Thanks for your patiences'
I just didn't like the way that came out...forgiving the grammar....so I spoke to FMIL who was concerned obviously about the contract being wrong AND immediately said 'You are part of the busy season and if you have questions, he needs to answer them so that you know they are on top of this. They are supposed to be party planners, they are not doing a good job of this if they can't answer your questions.'
So I called up the owner and and let him know that I was dissatisfied...he asked me to tell him the questions I asked.....so I started with the big one, the low salt/low fat....he proceeds to tell me that he spoke with the guy yesterday and told him the answer...........the email I got came over night (and after 9pm) and he didn't mention it at all. I immediately asked to be switched back to our original guy. You have no idea how relieved I am.
Ladies, the moral of this long, boring story is this: Definitely always go with your gut. If a vendor isn't making you 100% satisfied (and it's something that they can do...obviously letting you shoot fireworks off after the ceremony isn't really something they can do...), go with your gut and change. Yes, the wedding is really abuot the marriage, but as much as we are paying to celebrate and share our new marriages with friends and family, we deserve to get what we want/pay for/ask for (when acceptable)!! You will regret it in the end...I usually don't put up a fuss or do things like this (I can't tell you how many times I've been sat in a restaurant and wanted desperately to move or have a new waiter but said nothing and just tipped accordingly), but this is the most important day of my life so far and I should not go into it uncomfortable and frazzled over a vendor.
DISCLAIMER: I would like to note that other than my issues with one of the BMs at my hall, I am still absolutely happy with my choice there...I just didn't 'click' with this person and had already developed a good relationship with my original guy and wanted to go back. And yes, my relationship with the staff will effect nothing for my guests, but I wanted to be comfortable in the final planning stages as I should be.
Thanks for hearing me out.
ETA: I thought I was being 'bridezilla' of the day at first, but when he told me that he had spoken to him and answered the ?? and he didn't bother to tell me the answer, well, i didn't feel bridezilla at all anymore!!
