I found
a 1994 Buick Park ave with 100K miles for $3500
a 2000 buick century with 80K miles for $6000
Eh...I would watch out for the 94 Park Ave...Havent you learned your leason with Buicks yet. As for the 2000 Century with 80k miles....For $6000.....That car is way over priced.
Where are you located?
If you dont mind high miles, and you want a good car...I can tell you where to go.
D&P Auto in Bellmore on Bellmore Ave
They are a little expensive but their cars are completely serviced before they go out to the customer. They change the tires, brakes, hoses, belts, all fluids etc....

oh it's a 94 lesabre actually
learned my lesson?
my parents ahve always ahd buicks and they've all lasted forever..thier 77 was perfect when it got stolen in 1993, and the 1988 buick FH's car is STILL the best running car out of any we own, even tho it won't pass inspection.. and my mom's 93 is still going strong..well..despite the engine

IAccording to KBB, the retail value (excellent condition) of the cetury is $6700, but the private party value (good condition)) is $4700.
I haven't looked up the lesabre's kbb value. my onlt issue with it is that it smells like cat pee.

$6700 with 80k miles...Thats crazy. Honestly, if you are looking for reliability I would go with a japanese car...Get a subaru, toyota, or a honda...You will be better off with a japanese car with high mileage over an american car with high mileage...but if you want to go with an american car then check out the place I posted above....
I thought your Dh's buick was a money pit...That is how it seemed when you were telling me about the car in your fm the other day. Scott
My family had a Buick Century station wagon while I was in junior high and high school and I took it in my later years of college and as old as it was, that car was great. It got me and all my friends around all through college and it really took a lickin' and kept on tickin'! It even had a moonroof, lol. It was a good car.

Yeah well thats good and everything...but you knew the history of the car...She doesnt know the history of the two cars she found. I wouldnt buy a car with 80k miles on it for $6000, that is just crazy....and the mileage is just way too high for a 2000.
Just my point of view.

Re: I found 2 good prospects today!
the mileage is REALLY high...and he won't budge from $6000.. KBB value on it form a dealer is $6700, from a private party in non retial condition is $4800. I think that's more reasonable.
FH's car has only been a money pit for the past few months. And it's really been a lot of little BS things. In the past my dad fixed everything himself, and that saved a LOT. Now it's like...if it were just the mechanical things that needed to be fixed, it would be ok..but 2 years ago the ca rwas parked on the street and a car hit a minivan and the minivan LANDED on the hood of the car...and we never got it fixed form that, and there's a big crack in the windsheild..somehow the drivers seat broke an is practically in the backseat..the side mirror broke ...it's all little BS things that aren't worth it. if the body was fine, we'd pay the $$ to have the brakes fixed and a new AC compressor...but it's not that...it's like, the windows no longer open...lol...
Most of the stuff wrong with it resulted from it being smcaked in the door once (parked) and that minivan landing on it, again when it was parked. It was my dad's car at the time and he didn't bother suing the guy to get it repaired (he didn;t have colission on it). ANyway, I like buicks..but I don't trust ANY used car...
ANd I think this guy is WAY overcharging on the century for $4500 I'd buy it. I'm going to look into the lesabre, because it has a noral amont of mileage on it for its age, but I don't like the fact that it's had 2 owners and it smells like cat pee
I feel like I'll never find a car.
I'm gonna take FH to look at these 2 cars on saturday and then got o my old boss' dealership to see if he can get me something. they seemed to have cars under $4000..None of them were what I was looking for..but you never know.
He had a 1997 elantra for $500. For 500 bucks I'd just drive it until it dies and then move on.

Re: I found 2 good prospects today!
Did you look into any of the cars I gave you in the FM?
Dont go near the hyundai you are just asking for trouble. Hyundai didnt start making good cars until 2001. I wouldnt touch a 97. If you want under $1000 look for an older corolla, or a Subaru.
Why does the buick smell like Cat Pee? Thats just nasty lol
the cat pee smell could be a sign of antifreeze leaking. When DH's head gasket blew, the front mats were wet and it smelled like cat pee...
Very True....

I agree with Scott. If you are going used. Get a used Japanese car. If you go through a dealer you could even get a one year warranty and you are protected by the lemon law.
