i was having allot of fun with all the wedding planning until i started dress shopping.....i just cant seem to find something i like. I dont know if anyone can relate to this or not but i just feel like i wasnt cut out for all this...i mean all i want to do is marry my best friend in the whole world that i love more than life...i didnt want all the pomp and circumstance its just not me, i kinda got into all of it looking at pictures and talking to people and reading all your posts but since ive started looking for dresses i realized that its just not me...i like plain simple things, i guess im kinda still the little jock girl that i was as a kid and i havent seen a dress that is ME, and to make it worse i get all jammed up trying them on (to make it worse i have a nervous laugh) and im open to things that the ladies pick out and bring me even though i wouldnt have picked them out but when they see that i dont like them they seem to get annoyed at me one of them acutally told me 'i don't knwo what you wna t we dont do plain these are wedding dresses come back when your serious and not just playing dress up' i dont know im just worries that now its 9months away and i still havent even seen anything that i really love like not even online or a mag...sorry for the vent i just had to get it out
ETA: I FOUND IT!!!! forst thank youall for all your support i was feeling pretty bad about this whole thing last night....and thanx to my amazing FSIL and BM she called and made an appointment at Bridal Couture of Manhassette and we met with Darlene I showed her some dresses I liked that I saw online and a few in a magazine that nicole and I had picked, basically she let me look around and pick out what i liked and nicole picked out a few too. anyways the one that darlene picked out was exactly what i had in mind it was kind of a combo of this maggie sottero and jim heljm dress that i liked but i liked the top of one and the bottom of the other, anyway i put it on and just got a HUGE smile right away i finally felt great in a wedding dress!! and she was so cool about not pushing it i tried on a few other that just werent me and before i left i put the first one on again and i new it was just right....i was gong to wait to put money down on it, but when i told my parents they were so excited that we went back and i put it on a 3rd time and i still loved it so that was it i put the down payment on it and i guess ill see it again in july...lol anyways my mom and dad took tons of pictures at the place when i had the sample on so when i get those from them ill put them up! thanx again girls

I'm sorry I found it difficult finding 'the one' and it was not a fun process. However, I realized after trying on a few dresses that sometimes it's fun to go with other people just so you can make fun of all the cheesy styles that are available! I went to at least 6 or 7 bridal stores and tried on at least 20 dresses. Don't worry, you'll find something. Have you tried the J Crew collection or Ann Taylor? Their dresses are a little simpler than standard bridal fare and you may find something you like there. You'll definitely find something in time for your wedding. Good luck.

Hey, I don't know where you went that they told you to 'come back when you're serious', but you should def post that vendor so we know not to go there. Also, don't panic you have plenty of time. I'm a girlie girl and I wanted a simple dress. There's planty out there. I also have a god friend that NEVER wears anything but pants and would die in a skirt, but she chose a beauuuutiful simple dress that had lace on the bodice, was A-line, and had an organza over satin skirt that just ahad a little tiny line of lace around the very bottom of the dress. It was so simple and so beautiful, she loved it and she felt comfortable and like herself in it. Maybe you could try something like that. Also lok for a sweep train or a short chapel. That way you don't feel like you're drowning. Good luck and take your time and don't gt pushed into anything that's not you!

Don't worry, 9 months is plenty of time (then again thats coming from someone who waits till last minute for everything) Anyway... I was the same way when it came to dress shopping..I really wanted something plain, and thats exactly what I got... the only detailing is at the very top and its just beads...other than that, totally plain. Mabye it would help if you found some pics of dresses you like online and brought those to your appointments. I found out that the more of an idea you have as to what you want, the easier it is for everyone. Anyway, goodluck!

That was sooo rude what that person said to you. I'm so sorry.
You still have time! You will find something that you will love. Try on as many different styles as possible ( as much as you're going to dread this) and something will click. Sometimes, the dresses that you think you're dead against are actually the ones that look the best. That's how I found my gown. You're going to be happy, the right one is out there

OMG I cant believe someone said that to you! Thats absolutely horrible.
As far as the dress goes -- I agree with an above poster. Try places like JCrew. Also, Black & white has a beautiful wedding dress thats very simple. You WILL find something that you fall in love with. Many girls dont find something right away, so dont panic. You still have time. Just keep looking and dont get discouraged.

I'm sorry you are having trouble. I had the same issues, and just could not make up my mind. I did not order my dress until early April, and my wedding was in November. You still have time!

I am sorry you are having troubles! Everyone is right, you definitely have a lot of time and there are a lot of simpler styles out there! I completely understand that you feel this is not a fun process..>I felt the same exact way until about a month ago, when all the big stressful things were over and I can focus on the little details...the type of thing that I like to do because no one else seems to care about them and I can do what I want finally! I am definitely not a girly girl so I completey understand where you are coming from...if you ever wanna vent privately feel free to FM Me!

Re: i still havnt found a dress and starting to panic
hey sarah - have you tried Lillettes yet? I was sooooo nervous about dress shopping and they made me feel really comfortable there and then had tons of styles of dresses. Mine has alot of work but they had plenty of 'plain' dresses there too. Maybe if you cant find a wedding dress you like, start looking for just regular gowns in a white color. Hope you have better luck with your search!

definitely try jcrew! i LOVE this dress from there..
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by 'simpler' dress... but Melissa sweet makes some gorgeous lacey dresses, that are very simple and elegant.

Re: i still havnt found a dress and starting to panic
Don't stress! I am not a real 'girly-girl' either...and i knew i wanted a dress that would stil be 'me.' I tried on dresses that looked great, but my friends were like 'naah...that's just not her!' and the salespeople just couldn't understand. I also tried on literally about 100 dresses...many were ok...until i put on the one i bought...it was nothing like i thought i'd get but i can't wait to wear it! Try looking online and thru magazines...and see what appeals to you, and what does not...and keep an open mind when going to try on...sometimes what you least expect will make you say 'oooh!' And tell the salespeople a bit about your personality...my friends would say 'she's not your typical bride...she has a blackbelt & a motorcycle.' now we need a dress to go with that. And don't get discouraged...i know at one point i was ready to just settle...but when i least expected it my dress was there waiting for me! good luck girl!!

Go to some seperate designer web sites. Check out maggiesottero.com - while some of her dresses are over the top some of them are very simple - I am wearing channing - VERY simple. Also - check out destination dresses. they tend to be simple as well.
Re: i still havnt found a dress and starting to panic
OOOOO! Look at this one! another maggie - but check out the material!
Sleek and sophisticated! The stretch tulle over our stretch jersey lining allows for a flawless fit. Streams of beads, sequins, and crystals scatter throughout the gown, including the beaded spaghetti straps.
Re: i still havnt found a dress and starting to panic
dont worry , i havent even ordered my gown yet, still debating like you, i know what dress i want , but havent gone in to order as yet.

I had the same problem... don't panic, you will find something, and definitely don't settle. I wanted a simple, straight cut dress w/o beads. I went to a zillion places that all thought I was nuts, I settled on an a-line dress which was pretty plain, but not really what I wanted...wound up switching to a great Melissa Sweet straight fitted dress and I am so much happier, but my original settling caused a great deal of unnecessary stress and I had to eat the deposit!

Re: i still havnt found a dress and starting to panic
I'm having the same problem...I'm not necessarily looking for simple- but I'm def. NOT looking for over the top. My wedding is over a month before yours and I still haven't purchased a gown. I've gone 4 times in the past week to try some on, but I haven't had the 'this is it' feeling. I'm just VERY picky. My mom and sister are so exasperated with me....I'm going to look for the last time this weekend, and if I still don't have that feeling, I'm going to pick one of the one's I liked most.
Good Luck!!!
PS-- I agree- look at the designer websites and print pictures of what you like...even if the shops don't have the particular dresses you choose- they will at least have an idea as to what to show you.
