I give up!

I give up!

My poor FI is marrying into a nightmare of a family.

A lot of my family hasn't responded because 'we're family, if we want to show up we will.'

My dad has since fought with everyone and has gotten really worked up. And he has end-stage lung cancer so he doesn't need this now.

I told him I would handle it but he said no way. They're all crazy!

I told him, if they don't respond, they don't get a seat, and they're sitting in the bathroom. At least I made him laugh.

Just needed to vent.

That would PISS ME OFF.

Here is a solution for you. Take the $100 or so per plate you would have spent on one of these guys... and hire a nice 300lb bouncer to hang out at the front door.

When these idiots show up... just have them 'removed'.

If you need bouncer reccomendations... let me know. I have a few from my bar that can always use the extra work.

I think that it is wonderful that you have such a wonderful attitude! I am sure everything will work out wonderfully!

That is too funny. I already told my family--since most them will be from out of town, they will know well in advance if they will show up so just send the damn card in. if not you don't get in, it seems to have become some sort of tradition for Hispanics to think it is ok for them to RSVP 2 and show up with 10 or just don't respond and show up. Not to my wedding!!!

i like the bouncer idea - why are people so rude and inconsiderate. dont they realize you have to pay to save them a seat - and that is the last thing ur dad should deal with at this point

Re: I give up!

A friend of mine who recently got married had a couple of 'NO RSVP's' literally kicked out of her wedding! No joke. She had the staff at the place tell them to leave as there was no place seating for them.
Good Luck!

I couldn't agree with you more! How hard is it to fill out 2 lines on a card & mail it in - the postage is pre-paid!!

Re: I give up!

At least your father is willing to call his family.

We still are waiting for RSVP's and I have to have my final number to the Watermill this Thursday. And my FH's mother refuses to call her cousin to see if he and his wife are coming.

We finally got her to call her brother and other cousin, but she doesn't like this one so much and so doesn't want to call.

My FH told her she will be the one to kick them out if they show up, since she doesn't want to make a simple phone call.

I would give them one last call, either tell them or leave them a message stating that you need to know if they are coming or not - give them maybe 2 more days to call you back with an answer - No Call No Seat! If they can't give you an answer they do not respect you, so you need to give it back to them a little.

I'm sorry your family and yourself has to go through this stress right now. I think its unfair when people just don't do the right thing.

Re: I give up!

It's not really stress for me, just my dad. This was his one job - get the family to respond. And they're not helping him at all.

I just figure if they show, there will be a couple of no-shows and they can take their spot. They will be sitting with strangers but screw them.

That sucks. I'm so sorry. I just can't believe some people. As if you and your family are going through enough right now.
