I got an interesting proposition from my grandma-ma- (Just for Naunie)

My grandma-ma is currently selling her house in Bellmore. Since my grandfather passed away she is not able to keep the house here in NY and the one in Florida. She had a couple of open houses so far, but no one is biting.

She is willing to rent the house out. I told her that Peter and I are thinking about moving out of our apartment and she asked if I was interested in renting the house. Now we just have to figure out a price.

Added bonus- Huge backyard, pool, and we can rent out a small studio upstairs and pocket it if we find the tenants.

Con- Moving to LI. I don't drive so this will be an adjustment.

This sounds like a great opportunity for you, I would def take it!! You can learn to drive.

totally do it.

perhaps you can work something out with your Grandma, set a 'purchase' price, and 'buy' the house from her, but instead of getting a mortgage just pay the 'rent' directly to her, and toward the ownership of the house.

perhaps you can do something like buying 'shares' into the house, so she doesn't relinquish full ownership, and so progressively, you guys begin to own more and more with the payments you make.

you could sign some kind of contract, making in legal in case, God Forbid, anything should befall you or Grandma before the final payment is made.
